Job Description

Salary: £25,420 - 55,020 per year

Requirements:
  • We require commercial Unity and C# development experience, with a portfolio of released games or deployed interactive applications.
  • We require experience taking a project through development, testing, release and subsequent maintenance.
  • We require a strong understanding of gameplay programming, UI development and Unitys component-based architecture.
  • We need someone able to understand an existing codebase and make improvements independently.
  • We require experience debugging and profiling Unity applications, including performance and memory optimisation.
  • We expect good software engineering practices, including version control, code review, appropriate automated testing and technical documentation.
  • We value an understanding of how to make interactions clear, engaging and accessible.
  • We need confidence working with non-technical stakeholders and translating feedback into practical changes.
  • We are particularly interested in what you have personally built, shipped and supported.
  • We welcome experience with educational games, serious games, simulations or interactive learning tools.
  • We value experience with Unity WebGL builds and browser-based delivery.
  • We welcome experience developing for devices with limited processing power or unreliable connectivity.
  • We value accessible game design and testing with children or education users.
  • We welcome backend integration experience, including REST APIs, Firebase or cloud services.
  • We value experience with save systems, progress tracking and privacy-conscious analytics.
  • We welcome experience with automated build and release workflows and working with artists, designers or educators.
  • We value an interest in energy, sustainability and social impact.
Responsibilities:
  • We ask you to develop and improve educational games and interactive experiences using Unity and C#.
  • We ask you to translate learning objectives into clear gameplay mechanics, challenges and feedback.
  • We ask you to build intuitive interfaces, tutorials and interactions appropriate for the intended pupil age groups.
  • We ask you to extend and refactor existing code, creating maintainable systems and reusable components.
  • We ask you to implement game logic, progression, scenario behaviour and visual feedback.
  • We ask you to integrate artwork, animation, sound and other assets into the experience.
  • We ask you to optimise performance, loading times and builds for the agreed school devices and delivery platform.
  • We ask you to test functionality, resolve defects and support reliable releases.
  • We ask you to work with CEE, EWB and education stakeholders to gather feedback and improve the experience.
  • We ask you to document technical decisions and provide clear handovers to the wider team.
  • We expect you to help deliver an engaging experience pupils enjoy, that teachers can use confidently and the project team can maintain and extend.

In this role, you will support our Fairer Warmth schools project, working with CEE and EWB to create interactive learning experiences that help pupils explore energy and sustainability concepts through gameplay. The role combines hands-on Unity development, gameplay design, testing and collaboration with project partners. We aim for features that support clear learning objectives, work reliably on agreed devices, and are supported by readable code, testing and documentation. The position is remote, with annual pay of £25,420–£55,020.
