Certification Lead – BESS, Power Electronics & Digital Systems (m/f/d)

Your Role

At STABL Energy, we’re building the next generation of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), combining battery technology, advanced power electronics, embedded controls, and cloud-connected software.

We are looking for a Certification Lead - BESS, Power Electronics & Digital Systems (m/f/d) who combines strong knowledge of technical standards and product certification with practical engineering understanding.

In this role, you will own certification and product compliance across our complete BESS system architecture – from batteries and inverter technology to control systems and cloud connectivity. You will translate regulatory and normative requirements into clear engineering requirements and guide our teams toward compliant, safe, and certifiable products.

Your mission

• Own and coordinate certification and product compliance activities across BESS, inverter/power electronics, control systems, and cloud-connected products.
• Identify applicable standards, regulations, grid codes, and market-specific certification requirements.
• Translate normative and regulatory requirements into clear technical requirements for Engineering.
• Advise Electrical, Mechanical, Power Electronics, Systems, Firmware/Software, and Cloud teams on compliance-related design decisions.
• Develop certification strategies, compliance plans, and verification requirements for new products and product variants.
• Coordinate testing and certification activities with external laboratories, certification bodies, and technical experts.
• Review system architectures, specifications, risk assessments, test plans, and technical documentation from a compliance perspective.
• Ensure product cybersecurity requirements are considered in embedded software, communication interfaces, remote connectivity, and cloud services.
• Identify certification and compliance risks early and drive mitigation measures together with Engineering.
• Assess design, software, and component changes regarding their impact on existing certifications and conformity.
• Monitor changes in relevant standards and legislation and assess their impact on our products.

Your profile

Must-Have:

• Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, Energy Technology, Mechatronics, or a comparable technical field.
• 5+ years of professional experience in product certification, product compliance, testing, or systems engineering.
• Experience with BESS, power electronics, industrial electrical equipment, automation, or comparable complex technical products.
• Practical experience interpreting technical standards and translating them into engineering requirements.
• Good understanding of electrical safety, EMC, system safety, testing, and technical product documentation.
• Understanding of cybersecurity and compliance requirements for connected industrial products.
• Experience working with external test laboratories and certification bodies.
• Ability to understand system architectures, electrical schematics, specifications, software interfaces, and test reports.
• Strong technical communication skills and a structured, independent working style.
• Fluent English.

Nice-to-Have:

• Direct experience with Battery Energy Storage Systems, battery systems, inverters, power conversion systems, or cloud-connected industrial products.
• Knowledge of relevant standards, including:
  • BESS & battery safety: IEC 62933-5-1/-5-2, IEC 63056, IEC 62619, UL 9540A
  • Power electronics & electrical equipment: IEC 62477-1, IEC 61439-1/-2
  • EMC: IEC 61000 series
  • Grid connection: EN 50549, VDE-AR-N 4110, Austrian TOR, and related grid codes
  • Cybersecurity & connected products: IEC 62443 series
  • Cloud security: ISO/IEC 27001 and ISO/IEC 27017
• Experience with relevant EU product legislation, including the EU Battery Regulation, Low Voltage Directive, EMC Directive, and Cyber Resilience Act (CRA).
• Experience with CE conformity assessment, technical documentation, and product risk assessments.
• Experience supporting certification across multiple European markets.
• German language skills.
