Engineering managers read resumes looking for the same thing they look for in a design review: clear scope, sound methods and verifiable results. Civil, mechanical, electrical and construction roles all reward resumes that describe the size and type of projects you delivered, the standards you worked to and your exact responsibility on the team.
Recruiters screen for discipline, licensure status and software proficiency, then for project relevance: a hiring manager at a water utility wants to see hydraulic modeling, not generic "design experience." For each role, name the project types, their value or size and your part in them (lead designer, checker, site engineer). Mid-career candidates benefit from a short "Selected Projects" section.
Engineering produces natural metrics: "Redesigned a gearbox housing that cut part weight by 22% and machining cost by $14 per unit" or "Delivered structural design for a $35M, 6-story mixed-use building with zero RFIs at permit review." Also count drawings issued, defect rates reduced, energy savings, schedule recovered and the size of crews or subcontractors you coordinated.
The PE license is the most important credential for civil, structural and many electrical roles; list EIT or FE status if you are working toward it. PMP helps for project-focused roles, Six Sigma Green or Black Belt for manufacturing, LEED AP for sustainable design and OSHA 30 for site-based construction work.
