Virtualisation Engineer

Salary: £130,000 - 130,000 per year

Requirements:

• Strong experience with VMware virtualisation platforms, including vSphere, ESXi, and vCenter
• Hands-on experience with VMware Cloud Foundation and SDDC components such as NSX, vSAN, and VCF Operations
• Proficiency with automation tools such as PowerCLI, Terraform, Ansible, or SaltStack
• Experience developing Infrastructure as Code and using APIs for automation
• Solid understanding of enterprise networking, including DNS and load balancing
• Experience integrating platforms with DevOps toolchains and CI/CD pipelines
• Excellent technical documentation skills and ability to troubleshoot complex issues
• Experience working in secure or regulated environments with a security-first mindset
• Desirable: knowledge of Kubernetes on VCF (VKS) or container platforms
• Desirable: understanding of hybrid and multi-cloud environments
• Desirable: experience with GitOps practices
• Desirable: familiarity with disaster recovery and resilience solutions
• Desirable: relevant certifications such as VCP, VCAP, or VMware Cloud Foundation Specialist

Responsibilities:

• Design, deploy, and manage enterprise virtualisation platforms based on VMware VCF
• Implement core components such as vSphere, NSX, vSAN, and VCF Operations
• Develop Infrastructure as Code solutions using tools like Terraform, PowerCLI, and Ansible to enable repeatable, automated deployments
• Create API-driven automation for provisioning and platform lifecycle management
• Support platform build, upgrade, patching, and scaling while ensuring continuous improvement and stability
• Integrate virtualisation platforms with network services, DNS, identity, and DevOps pipelines
• Translate architectural designs into automated, deployable solutions aligned to programme standards and security requirements
• Produce technical documentation including low-level designs, build guides, and runbooks
• Participate in system integration, testing, operational handovers, and change impact assessments
• Support ongoing platform optimisation and security hardening

We are partnering with a key client in Corsham, Wiltshire, on a DV-cleared Virtualisation Engineer contract role supporting the OpNET programme. This is a reputable client environment focused on delivering innovative, secure infrastructure solutions within a structured and professional team. The contract runs until 31 March 2027 with scope for extension, and the day rate is up to £650 per day plus VAT inside IR35.
