Vehicle Line Manager, Software
Job Description
Salary: £41,000 - 81,000 per year
Requirements:- You have a degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or a related field, with a 2:1 or above.
- You have proven project leadership experience delivering automotive software programmes within an APQP, ASPICE, or similar framework.
- You have experience with high-volume or niche-volume programmes at an OEM or Tier 1 supplier.
- You have strong technical problem-solving experience with electro-mechanical systems.
- You know DFMEA and its application in an automotive environment.
- You know automotive communication protocols, including Ethernet, CAN, and LIN.
- You have strong experience with project and issue-tracking tools such as Mantis or Jira.
- You will manage Software and EE Architecture project targets and deliverables, communicate and report progress at each stage of the vehicle programme, and prepare and present MDP slides at project gateways.
- You will deliver systems in line with targets, KPIs, and milestones set by the McLaren Development Process and project management leaders.
- You will support key technology and system decisions with business cases and lifecycle planning, and ensure their consequences are reflected in targets, budgets, and plans.
- You will manage Software Change Requests with the Software Integration Engineer, agreeing changes and implementation timing.
- You will support decision meetings with concise, accurate technical and project information.
- You will define and deliver the Feature Implementation Plan (FIP) with programme management and Software and EE Architecture and Electrical Systems principals, ensuring alignment with the development plan and gateway and sign-off milestones.
- You will create the programme Software Platform plan and cascade feature implementation, software maturity, and timing requirements to software engineers and module owners. You will gather stakeholder feedback on feasibility and clarify dependencies such as ARXML releases, hardware, and test property timing.
- You will monitor functional implementation and timing, keep platforms on track to agreed software maturity and the FIP, assess technical compatibility, and address the impact of late or incomplete deliveries.
- You will work with the Lead Validation Engineer to ensure stress testing and functional attributes are assessed at each milestone, identify technical risks and priority fixes, and monitor delivery of fixes into the next platform.
- You will create platform critical-issues dashboards and ensure issues are closed.
- You will lead system-level root-cause analysis of issues from the field, vehicle DVP, MPC, and Aftersales, bringing cross-functional teams together to resolve difficult problems.
- You will be the programmes primary contact within Software and EE Architecture, represent the function group, and align with functional and departmental goals.
- You will work closely with the Electrical Systems TPM, who manages the Vehicle Line budget for Software and EE Architecture, including resources, tooling investment, D&D, and BOM costs, with support from the Vehicle Programme Manager.
