Software Developer

Salary: £28,000 - 35,000 per year

Requirements:

• Strong C# / .NET experience.
• Comfortable writing and optimising PostgreSQL queries; experience with PostgreSQL is a bonus but not essential.
• Experience using Git for version control.
• Experience writing unit tests.
• At least one year of professional coding experience, ideally in C# and/or .NET, in a commercial or professional setting.
• Experience working in a development team, contributing to shared codebases and following team processes such as version control and code reviews.
• Some experience with relational databases and writing and optimising SQL queries.
• Exposure to the full software development lifecycle, from coding and testing through to release; experience may come from internships, placements or junior roles.
• Able to work independently with minimal supervision and make sound technical decisions.
• Available to work in our Hull office five days a week and meet contracted hours reliably.
• Able to maintain confidentiality around sensitive company, customer and regulatory information.
• Genuine interest in technology and coding outside work.

Responsibilities:

• Write clean, maintainable C# / .NET code to design and implement features and backend services in line with established standards and best practices.
• Investigate and resolve bugs and performance issues in live systems, including identifying root causes.
• Work with QA, frontend developers and product and delivery management to scope work, clarify requirements and deliver features to specification.
• Review colleagues pull requests and submit your own for review to support code quality and consistency.
• Ensure software changes meet regulatory standards relevant to a UKGC-licensed gaming environment and maintain accurate audit records.
• Contribute to database design and maintenance, including schema changes, migration scripts and PostgreSQL performance optimisation.
• Support build and release processes, including testing in staging environments before production releases.
• Deliver reliable, well-tested code on schedule, help minimise production defects, support smooth releases and contribute consistently to sprint goals.
• Take ownership of assigned work, complete tasks to a professional standard and promptly flag issues or delays.
• Maintain good timekeeping and professional conduct with colleagues, management and others encountered through the role.
