Data Centre Engineer

Salary: £130,000 - 130,000 per year

Requirements:

• Must hold active SC Clearance.
• Proven hands-on experience working within live data centre environments.
• Previous experience undertaking server, storage or infrastructure decommissioning.
• Strong practical knowledge of enterprise server and storage hardware.
• Experience installing and removing rack-mounted equipment and working safely within data centre racks.
• Experience tracing and disconnecting Ethernet, Fibre Channel/SAN and power connectivity.
• Understanding of enterprise storage infrastructure and associated cabling.
• Experience handling HDDs, SSDs and other data-bearing media securely.
• Knowledge of secure data sanitisation, media destruction and chain-of-custody requirements.
• Experience maintaining accurate hardware asset and inventory records.
• Experience working with CMDB and/or IT asset-management systems.
• Ability to work from rack elevations, asset lists, implementation plans and technical documentation.
• Experience working within formal change-control and change-management processes.
• Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to equipment identification.
• Ability to recognise unexpected dependencies or discrepancies and escalate appropriately rather than proceeding without authorisation.
• Good written documentation and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently whilst following defined technical and security procedures.
• Ability and willingness to travel between all three data centre locations.

Responsibilities:

• Support a major Data Centre Exit Project within secure live data centre environments.
• Decommission server, storage and infrastructure hardware across multiple locations.
• Remove rack-mounted equipment safely and in accordance with documented procedures.
• Trace, identify and disconnect Ethernet, Fibre Channel/SAN and power connectivity.
• Handle HDDs, SSDs and other data-bearing media securely.
• Support secure data sanitisation, media destruction and chain-of-custody requirements.
• Maintain accurate hardware asset and inventory records.
• Work from rack elevations, implementation plans, asset lists and technical documentation.
• Follow formal change-control and change-management processes.
• Escalate unexpected dependencies, discrepancies or risks as appropriate.

We are seeking experienced Data Centre Engineers to support a major Data Centre Exit Project. This is a hands-on role within secure live data centre environments, and additional engineers are required within our Datacentre Team to meet increased demand for project work. The assignment is based in Grays and Stevenage, lasts 6 months with possible extension, and offers a rate of up to £500 per day via an approved umbrella company. This is an urgent contractor requirement due to increased workload and the current teams limited capacity.
