Software Engineer (Remote)

Salary: £34,000 - 70,000 per year

Requirements:

• Production experience with functional programming languages such as Clojure, Elixir, Erlang, Haskell, Scala, or Scheme, or substantial personal projects demonstrating deep functional programming experience; alternatively, fintech domain expertise in payments, accounts, ledgers, or compliance, including money movement, reconciliation, and regulatory requirements
• Strong software fundamentals and distributed systems knowledge, including consistency models, idempotency, and production failure modes
• Experience working collaboratively in product-focused teams and shaping products alongside product managers and designers
• Comfort adapting to startup pace, changing priorities, evolving requirements, and ambiguity

Responsibilities:

• Explore technical solutions, write RFCs, build proof-of-concepts, and run experiments to validate approaches
• Build and maintain banking and payment systems, including transaction reconciliation, double-entry accounting, webhook infrastructure, API versioning, and payment approval workflows
• Make technical decisions on projects, including selecting architectures and deciding whether to extend or rebuild existing systems
• Work with product managers to shape features and take them from customer problem through production delivery
• Set technical direction through code reviews, implementation patterns, and architectural decisions
• Monitor, debug, and improve production systems
• Improve engineering practices and productivity, and build systems that customers find useful
• Own projects end-to-end, from initial RFC and architecture through implementation and live operation
