Salary: £34,000 - 74,000 per year

Requirements:
  • Passion for working on tools that will be used by many different users across a wide range of disciplines.
  • Exemplary analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication, documentation, and collaboration skills.
  • Strong understanding of how to write maintainable systems, including structure, documentation, and unit tests.
  • Ability to effectively manage competing demands for your time.
  • Advanced knowledge of C# / .NET programming.
  • Solid WPF / XAML skills.
  • Experience in the creation and support of complex software packages.
Responsibilities:
  • Create and support the development tools we use to build games.
  • Work with the UX team to design effective workflows and development pipelines.
  • Write user and technical documentation that evangelise tools and guide users to solid solutions.
  • Provide mentoring and guidance to more junior programmers to support their growth.
  • Contribute directly to Cobra and its supporting pipelines.
  • Take ownership of proprietary tools used with Cobra-based games.
  • Promote best use of existing tools for game development.
  • Collaborate with programmers within STG and project teams to determine how tooling and runtime components fit together.
  • Work closely with the STG Tools UX team and Technical QA team to design tools, maintain stability, and improve workflows.

We are Frontier, an independent video game developer and publisher based in Cambridge, UK. We craft immersive gaming experiences with fun gameplay and high artistic quality, and we are known for our iconic creative management simulation games. Our Shared Technology Group develops and maintains our in-house engine Cobra and supports game teams with tools, workflows, and technical guidance. This role is based in our modern Cambridge studio and is available full in-studio or hybrid, with a minimum of 3 days per week in the studio.
