Senior Engineer - Platform Engineering

Salary: £80,000 - 83,000 per year

Requirements:

• We require a bachelors or masters degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field.
• We require 6+ years of experience in platform engineering, DevOps, or infrastructure roles.
• We require strong experience with cloud platforms, with Azure preferred.
• We require proficiency in containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
• We require hands-on experience with CI/CD tools such as GitHub, Azure DevOps, and GitLab CI.
• We require experience with Infrastructure-as-Code tools such as Terraform, Pulumi, Ansible, or Bicep.
• We require proven expertise in CI/CD pipeline design, automation, and standardisation, including migration from Azure DevOps to GitHub.
• We require deep hands-on experience with automated cloud provisioning and infrastructure-as-code practices.
• We require strong knowledge of Azure cloud services, including compute, networking, identity, and security.
• We require experience implementing DevSecOps practices, including SAST/DAST tools, secrets management, and secure pipeline execution.
• We require expertise in artifact management and modern DevOps tooling ecosystems, including Nexus.
• We require experience enabling Internal Developer Platform capabilities such as self-service provisioning, reusable templates, and platform standardisation.
• We require solid understanding of the software development lifecycle, release engineering, and environment lifecycle management.
• We require experience working with data platforms such as Snowflake and/or Databricks, including CI/CD integration and access control models.
• We require experience with observability and monitoring frameworks, and understanding of SRE practices such as SLIs/SLOs and reliability engineering.
• We require strong scripting and automation skills in Python, PowerShell, or Bash.
• We require good understanding of security, networking, RBAC, and Zero Trust principles in cloud and DevOps environments.
• We require exposure to AI-enabled developer tooling and experience improving developer experience.
• We require experience operating in regulated, enterprise-scale environments with a strong focus on governance, auditability, and compliance.
• We require strong communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to act as a hands-on SME and technical leader.
• We prefer certifications in cloud technologies or Kubernetes.
• We prefer familiarity with service mesh, API gateways, and platform observability tools.
• We prefer knowledge of FinOps, cost optimisation, and cloud governance.
• We prefer solid programming skills in Python, Go, or Java.
• We prefer relevant cloud or Kubernetes certifications.

Responsibilities:

• We will lead the design, build, and evolution of our Internal Developer Platform to support secure, scalable, and self-service engineering environments.
• We will lead DevOps transformation initiatives, including migration from Azure DevOps to GitHub.
• We will implement standardised CI/CD pipelines, reusable workflows, and release automation frameworks.
• We will develop and maintain Infrastructure-as-Code solutions using Terraform, Bicep, or similar tools.
• We will deliver and optimise cloud-native platforms on Azure, with a focus on scalability, resilience, and cost efficiency.
• We will act as a subject matter expert across GitHub, Nexus, and Veracode, embedding security controls into pipelines and platform services.
• We will enable and support DevOps practices for core data platforms, including Snowflake and Databricks.
• We will implement observability frameworks, including monitoring, logging, and alerting.
• We will contribute to SRE practices such as SLIs/SLOs, reliability engineering, and incident management.
• We will embed security and compliance standards into all platform components, ensuring auditability and policy enforcement.
• We will drive developer experience improvements through platform standardisation, self-service tooling, templates, and AI-enabled capabilities.
• We will collaborate with Architecture, Cloud COE, SRE, and engineering teams to deliver consistent and governed platform capabilities.
• We will mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical leadership, standards definition, and engineering best practices.
