Senior Application Architect

Salary: £63,000 - 103,000 per year

Requirements:

• Degree or diploma in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
• 8+ years of experience in software engineering and architecture across the full software development lifecycle
• At least a couple of years in a senior application design or architecture capacity
• Proven experience working with Oracle E-Business Suite (EBS) in an architectural or senior development role
• Experience with full lifecycle implementations or major upgrades of Oracle EBS
• Deep understanding of Oracle EBS modules such as Financials, Project Billing and Costing, and HCM
• Knowledge of the Oracle EBS technical stack, including Oracle Database and PL/SQL, Oracle Forms/Reports, Workflow, and interface tools
• Hands-on experience designing and deploying applications on Oracle Cloud and/or Microsoft Azure
• Strong expertise in cloud computing platforms and services, including compute, storage, databases, networking, and cloud-native design patterns
• Familiarity with multi-tier, microservices, and event-driven architecture patterns
• Experience with DevSecOps principles and tools, including CI/CD and automated testing
• Ability to build or maintain CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Terraform, Azure DevOps, or GitLab CI/CD
• Experience with configuration management and automation tools such as Ansible, Puppet, or Chef
• Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes
• Strong systems integration skills, including designing APIs and middleware for heterogeneous systems
• Experience with RESTful APIs, SOAP web services, and enterprise application integration patterns
• Knowledge of integration tools or middleware such as Oracle Integration Cloud, Oracle SOA Suite, or other ESB tools
• Proficiency in programming and scripting languages relevant to the enterprise stack, such as Python/Django, Java, or C#
• Strong SQL skills and experience working with relational databases, particularly Oracle Database and PL/SQL
• Comfortable working in a Linux environment
• Familiarity with version control systems and build tools
• Experience using modelling tools to create architecture diagrams and documentation, such as Microsoft Visio, Draw.io, Lucidchart, or UML design tools
• Strong grasp of software architecture principles and design patterns
• Knowledge of architecture frameworks such as TOGAF or Zachman is beneficial
• Experience with Agile/Scrum development processes and DevSecOps culture
• Familiarity with automated testing frameworks and performance testing tools
• Strong understanding of security best practices, including least privilege, defense in depth, secure coding practices, threat modelling, and compliance standards such as ISO 27001
• Experience with performance and reliability engineering, including indexing, caching, failover, backups, and disaster recovery planning
• Excellent communication, analytical, problem-solving, leadership, and interpersonal skills
• Ability to mentor technical teams, facilitate discussions, and drive consensus on technical decisions
• Self-motivated, proactive, and able to work with a high degree of initiative

Responsibilities:

• Design and oversee the architecture of various software systems
• Ensure applications are scalable, secure, and integrated with existing systems, including Oracle EBS ERP
• Work with the Custom Software Solutions development team, global database administrators, and business stakeholders/SMEs to translate business requirements into technical solutions
• Guide projects through to successful implementation
• Optimize workflows and business processes between Project Managers and Project Accountants
• Enhance and integrate existing applications and data stores, including on-premises Oracle E-Business Suite and future Oracle Fusion Cloud apps
• Design and document overall application architecture for projects across on-premises systems and cloud platforms
• Create strategies for integrating cloud services with existing systems
• Analyse current application portfolios and identify opportunities to improve or modernize them
• Provide expertise in cloud services and architect cloud-based applications or migrations
• Ensure cloud solutions follow security and compliance requirements
• Serve as the subject matter expert on Oracle E-Business Suite within the architecture
• Ensure new and existing applications integrate seamlessly with Oracle EBS where necessary
• Provide guidance on Oracle EBS enhancements and customizations in line with best practices
• Design APIs or middleware for data exchange between Oracle EBS and other applications
• Provide technical leadership to software development teams throughout the software development lifecycle
• Lead architecture review sessions and code reviews
• Mentor and guide developers in implementing the architecture correctly
• Assist in troubleshooting complex issues
• Communicate architectural decisions and rationale to the development team
• Ensure the development team understands and follows design principles and appropriate design patterns
• Incorporate security requirements and performance considerations into application architecture designs from the outset
• Work with IT Security to perform risk assessments on new architectures
• Include controls for data protection, robust error handling, high performance, availability, and disaster recovery preparedness
• Collaborate with stakeholders across the organization to understand requirements and translate them into technical architecture designs
• Participate in requirement-gathering workshops and advise on feasibility or alternative solutions
• Liaise with vendors or external partners when third-party systems or cloud services are involved
• Take part in planning and executing IT projects as the architecture owner
• Estimate effort and resources needed for architectural tasks and new infrastructure
• Monitor project progress to ensure alignment with architectural design and intervene if refactoring is needed
• Lead proof-of-concept initiatives to validate new technologies, design patterns, or approaches
• Ensure proper documentation of the architecture and key design decisions is produced
• Stay updated with emerging technologies, tools, and best practices
• Evaluate cloud innovations, DevSecOps tools, and Oracle EBS or Oracle Fusion Cloud features for potential benefit
• Drive adoption of new technologies and establish best practice guidelines and technical standards internally
