Job Description

Salary: £53,000 - 93,000 per year

Requirements:
  • We require a bachelors degree in Computer Science or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • We require proven experience administering MongoDB in production environments, including sharded clusters and replica sets.
  • We require experience supporting PostgreSQL or other enterprise relational databases.
  • We require experience with MongoDB Ops Manager and monitoring tools such as Prometheus and Grafana.
  • We require strong knowledge of database backup, recovery, Point-in-Time Recovery (PITR), and High Availability strategies.
  • We require experience troubleshooting and optimising database performance.
  • We require strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • We require the ability to work effectively in production-critical environments.
  • Preferred: experience supporting globally distributed or high-availability database platforms.
  • Preferred: experience with database automation using Bash, Python, or Golang.
  • Preferred: familiarity with Linux, Docker, Kubernetes, GitLab, or DevOps practices.
  • Preferred: knowledge of data modelling, schema design, and database optimisation techniques.
  • Preferred: experience supporting databases for microservices or distributed applications.
  • Preferred: familiarity with ANSI SQL and relational database concepts.
  • Preferred: experience contributing to quality assurance and testing of database platforms.
Responsibilities:
  • We design, maintain, and optimise database platforms that support global production systems and high-performance computing workloads.
  • We manage, maintain, and support MongoDB and relational database environments.
  • We install, configure, and administer MongoDB sharded clusters and replica sets.
  • We support PostgreSQL environments, including day-to-day administration, backup, and recovery.
  • We monitor database health, performance, and availability using tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, and MongoDB Ops Manager.
  • We analyse and optimise database performance, queries, and configurations.
  • We develop strategies to support data growth, scalability, and high-traffic workloads.
  • We implement backup, restore, Point-in-Time Recovery (PITR), and High Availability (HA) solutions.
  • We troubleshoot database issues and ensure the reliability of production systems.
  • We support business continuity through robust operational practices.
  • We work with development teams to improve database design and application performance.
  • We support testing, validation, and quality assurance activities for database changes.
  • We contribute to automation, operational improvements, and database best practices.
