Data Governance Consultant

Salary: £80,000 - 80,000 per year

Requirements:

• Valid SC Clearance is required.
• Strong practical experience delivering data governance or data management initiatives, ideally in consulting, the public sector or a regulated environment.
• Experience in several of the following areas: data governance frameworks and operating models; data quality management and remediation; data stewardship and ownership models; metadata management and data cataloguing; data lineage; business glossaries; data classification and sensitivity; data privacy, retention and access controls; governance policies, standards and procedures; stakeholder workshops and client-facing consulting.
• Some understanding of AI governance or assurance would be beneficial, particularly in training data quality, provenance, bias, model evaluation, monitoring and risk management. Deep hands-on machine learning experience is not required.
• Exposure to tools such as Microsoft Purview, Collibra, Alation, Databricks, Microsoft Fabric, Azure ML or Power BI governance would be useful.
• Experience in Defence, Central Government, hydrography, sonar, geospatial or mapping, or offshore industries such as oil and gas would be particularly relevant.

Responsibilities:

• Deliver data governance frameworks, policies, standards and operating models.
• Define stewardship models, governance roles, RACI structures and decision-making forums.
• Establish data quality rules, measures, scorecards and remediation processes.
• Support metadata management, business glossaries, data catalogues and lineage.
• Help clients classify and protect sensitive data and improve auditability.
• Run stakeholder workshops to understand requirements and translate them into practical governance solutions.
• Produce governance documentation, operating procedures, risk assessments and assurance reports.
• Support AI governance and assurance, including data provenance, bias, privacy, model evaluation and ongoing monitoring.
• Work alongside data architects, engineers, security specialists and other consultants.
• Support and coach more junior team members.

We are recruiting a permanent Data Governance Consultant for a leading technology consultancy. This is a client-facing consulting role working across multidisciplinary data, architecture, engineering and security teams. The role focuses on helping clients establish and improve practical data governance frameworks, with additional support for responsible AI governance and assurance. The position is based from home or in Bristol on a hybrid basis, with a salary of £75,000–£80,000 plus benefits.
