Senior Software Engineer

Salary: £54,000 - 70,000 per year

Requirements:

• Existing right to work in the UK; visa sponsorship is not available for this role.
• Solid experience developing backend applications, ideally with TypeScript, or willingness to learn it quickly.
• Understanding of event-driven systems and message queues.
• Strong familiarity with cloud infrastructure, preferably AWS, especially serverless technologies.
• Experience with database design, optimisation and maintenance using SQL or NoSQL.
• Passion for high-quality software and solving real customer problems.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with an interest in mentoring and knowledge sharing.
• Proactive mindset and ability to thrive in ambiguity.

Responsibilities:

• Design, build and maintain scalable backend services using TypeScript.
• Work with event-driven systems and message queues to power real-time, reliable features.
• Collaborate with product managers, designers and engineers to build customer-focused solutions.
• Contribute high-quality code, mentor others and promote engineering best practices.
• Own services end to end, from architecture through production monitoring and continuous improvement.
• Optimise system performance and data design, using SQL or NoSQL databases as appropriate.
• Use cloud platforms, especially AWS, and serverless architectures to build reliable, scalable solutions.
• Share knowledge and support the team, contributing to a positive engineering culture.

The role is based in our London, Bristol or Edinburgh offices, with hybrid working and an expectation of three office days per week. The salary range is £60,000–£80,000.
