Job Description

Salary: £68,000 - 108,000 per year

Requirements:
  • We require a bachelors or masters degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or a related discipline.
  • We require proven experience in market data engineering, market data integration, or market data transformation within financial services or a trading house, with direct experience supporting commodities or energy trading desks.
  • We require a strong understanding of energy markets including Gas, Power, LNG, Carbon, Environmental Products, and related commodities.
  • We require proven experience assessing and optimising complex market data ecosystems.
  • We require hands-on experience working with market data from Trayport and E-Star platforms.
  • We require a strong understanding of exchange-traded and OTC market structures and associated market data flows.
  • We require strong knowledge of Bloomberg, Refinitiv/LSEG, ICE, CME, S&P Global Platts, Argus, and related market data services.
  • We require proficiency in working with technology partners to enable the integration, distribution, and consumption of market data across enterprise platforms.
  • We require a strong understanding of market data integration patterns, data delivery mechanisms, and real-time data ecosystems.
  • We require the ability to translate business and trading requirements into scalable market data solutions in collaboration with architecture and engineering teams.
  • We require experience engaging with cloud, data, and platform teams to support the adoption of strategic data services and capabilities.
  • We require familiarity with market data platforms, messaging technologies, and automation frameworks, with the ability to guide technology delivery rather than perform hands-on development.
  • We require strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and coordinate cross-functional teams across Trading, Risk, Data, and Technology.
  • We require a strong understanding of market data licensing, entitlement management, and redistribution controls.
  • Nice to have: experience with market data inventory and governance platforms.
  • Nice to have: familiarity with Chief Data Office operating models and data governance frameworks.
  • Nice to have: experience implementing metadata management, lineage, observability, and data quality capabilities.
Responsibilities:
  • We will partner with the Head of Market Data & Trading Tools to execute the market data strategy, roadmap, and operating model across Shell Energy Trading.
  • We will translate strategic priorities into scalable integration capabilities, adoption plans, standards, and measurable business outcomes across Front Office, Risk, Quants, Finance, Operations, Technology, and ETRM platforms.
  • We will assess the current market data landscape across trading, risk, analytics, and operational platforms to identify opportunities for simplification, rationalisation, reuse, cost optimisation, improved governance, and reduced duplication of sourcing and integration efforts.
  • We will evaluate emerging technologies, vendor solutions, and industry trends to inform future-state integration capabilities.
  • We will drive adoption of CDO-enabled market data platforms and services across Front Office, Risk, Quants, Finance, Operations, Technology, ETRM platforms, analytics environments, and downstream business applications.
  • We will establish standard onboarding and integration patterns to ensure market data consumers adopt strategic capabilities consistently, efficiently, and in line with enterprise architecture and governance standards.
  • We will lead technical onboarding and integration of market data from trading platforms, execution venues, vendors, exchanges, brokers, and OTC markets, including Trayport, E-Star, Bloomberg, Refinitiv/LSEG, ICE, CME, S&P Global Platts, Argus, Wood Mackenzie, and other strategic providers.
  • We will drive standard connectivity approaches using APIs, streaming services, SDKs, SFTP, vendor-native interfaces, and enterprise-approved integration patterns.
  • We will partner with Technology teams and vendors on evaluations, proof-of-concepts, technical due diligence, and onboarding activities.
  • We will act as the senior technical authority for market data integration technologies, engineering standards, reference architectures, and reusable integration frameworks.
  • We will promote API-first design, event-driven architecture, cloud-native patterns, automation, observability, resilience, and scalable support models across Azure, AWS, Databricks, Snowflake, Kafka, Solace, RMDS/TREP, and related technologies.
  • We will partner with governance, compliance, audit, commercial, and technology stakeholders to strengthen market data governance, data quality, lineage, observability, licensing compliance, entitlement management, redistribution controls, and operational risk management.
  • We will improve transparency of market data ownership, usage, consumption, and lifecycle controls across Shell Energy Trading.
  • We will act as the recognised subject matter authority during material incidents involving market data feeds, partnering with vendors and internal teams to support resolution and service improvement.
  • We will build strong relationships with trading desks, Quants, Risk, Finance, Operations, Technology, Architecture, vendors, and governance teams.
  • We will lead through influence rather than line management, partnering with Technology teams, vendors, and a broader matrix of delivery and commercial stakeholders to execute against the strategy.
  • We will partner on subscription onboarding, commercial engagement, documentation, knowledge sharing, and adoption of enterprise market data capabilities.
  • We will direct the maintenance of documentation for data sources, integration patterns, data dictionaries, and operational runbooks within the CDO knowledge base to enable self-service adoption.
  • We will identify opportunities to optimise market data expenditure through consolidation, rationalisation, improved utilisation of strategic platforms and services, and reduction of redundant subscriptions.
