Data Migration Engineer

Salary: £55,000 - 95,000 per year

Requirements:

• Were looking for someone with experience in data engineering or data migration delivery.
• We need strong experience in data migration, ETL/ELT pipeline development, and cloud-based data platforms.
• Were looking for hands-on experience with AWS cloud services, especially AWS Glue.
• We need experience using Python/PySpark and SQL for querying, validation, and transformation.
• YAML configuration experience is desirable.
• Were looking for experience testing or supporting ETL/ELT pipelines and data migration processes.
• We value familiarity with data lake and lakehouse concepts, such as Apache Iceberg.
• Wed like experience with distributed processing frameworks such as Spark.
• A basic understanding of ETL versus ELT approaches and cloud-based data architectures is important.
• Exposure to version control and CI/CD tools is desirable.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are required.
• Effective communication and teamwork skills are required.
• You should be willing to learn and develop in data migration and cloud technologies.

Responsibilities:

• We support delivery within data migration programmes and contribute to key workstreams.
• We collaborate with architects, engineers, stakeholders, analysts, and QA teams to implement migration solutions.
• We assist in planning and executing data migration tasks and deliverables.
• We build and maintain data migration pipelines from legacy data warehouses to AWS-based platforms.
• We develop ETL/ELT pipelines using AWS Glue, Python/PySpark, SQL, and YAML configurations.
• We support bulk data migrations and incremental/delta loads.
• We assist with pipeline repointing and migration to cloud environments.
• We test ETL/ELT data pipelines on AWS services, including AWS Glue and Apache Iceberg.
• We support validation of data pipeline migrations to AWS Data Lakehouse architectures.
• We write and run SQL queries to validate data completeness, data accuracy, and transformation outputs.
• We support development of test scripts and validation checks.
• We work with AWS services including AWS Glue and S3-based data lakes.
• We support implementation of Data Lakehouse architectures, including Apache Iceberg.
• We contribute to improving pipeline performance and reliability.
• We apply transformation logic based on defined data mapping rules.
• We support preparation of data for target-state models and help ensure consistency between source and target datasets.
• We follow established engineering standards and best practices.
• We contribute to documentation and reusable components.
• We support maintenance of data quality and integrity during migration.
• We follow secure data handling practices and assist with compliance requirements, including GDPR and public sector data standards where applicable.
• We contribute to testing, validation, and audit activities.
