Tech Lead

Salary: £70,000 - 75,000 per year

Requirements:

• We have proven experience as a Tech Lead or Lead Engineer with direct responsibility for technical direction and team leadership.
• We have strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric or an equivalent modern data platform such as Azure Synapse or Databricks for data engineering and data foundations.
• We have strong expertise in Power BI, including data modelling, DAX, and enterprise reporting best practice.
• We have experience scoping and/or delivering AI solutions, ideally including conversational AI, chatbot, or LLM-based assistants.
• We have solid understanding of finance processes and data domains, ideally including FP&A, controlling, and reporting.
• We have experience managing or leading a team of developers, including task allocation, code review, and technical mentoring.
• We have strong stakeholder management skills and are comfortable working with both technical teams and senior finance/business stakeholders.
• We have a good understanding of cloud architecture, data governance, and security within the Microsoft ecosystem, especially Azure.
• We have excellent communication skills and can explain technical trade-offs to non-technical audiences.

Responsibilities:

• We own and define the end-to-end technical direction and architecture for the IBPM workstream, ensuring alignment with the wider Finance AI Enablement programme roadmap.
• We lead, mentor, and manage a team of approximately five developers, setting priorities, reviewing code and designs, and supporting their technical growth.
• We design and oversee data foundations built on Microsoft Fabric, including data ingestion, modelling, transformation, and governance for finance data domains.
• We direct the design and delivery of reporting and analytics solutions in Power BI, ensuring performance, usability, and a single source of truth for finance stakeholders.
• We scope, evaluate, and shape the roadmap for AI-enabled capabilities, with an initial focus on conversational AI such as chat-based assistants over finance data and processes.
• We translate business and finance stakeholder requirements into technical designs, solution options, and delivery plans.
• We establish engineering best practice, including coding standards, CI/CD, environment management, testing strategy, and technical documentation across the workstream.
• We act as the key technical point of contact with programme leadership, architects, and other workstream leads, escalating risks and dependencies as needed.
• We evaluate emerging tools and approaches in the Microsoft AI/data ecosystem, including Fabric, Power BI, Copilot, and Azure AI services, and recommend adoption where relevant.
• We own technical risk management, including data security, access control, and responsible AI considerations for any AI solutions delivered.

We are hiring an experienced Tech Lead to own the technical direction of the IBPM (Intelligent Business Process Management) workstream within a broader Finance AI Enablement programme. This role sits at the intersection of data engineering, analytics, and applied AI, and offers the opportunity to lead a team of around five developers while shaping the architecture from data foundations through to AI capabilities. The position is mainly remote, with occasional visits to London for key workshops and meetings. The assignment is expected to start ASAP and run until the end of the year, with an inside IR35 rate that is negotiable.
