Software Engineer

Salary: £65,000 - 65,000 per year

Requirements:

• We are looking for a strong background in embedded, real-time software engineering.
• We need experience working with C, C++, Ada or similar languages.
• We need experience working within safety-critical environments.
• We need knowledge of high-integrity software development processes.
• We need familiarity with safety standards and regulated development environments.
• We need an understanding of software verification and validation methodologies.
• Desirable: Ada or SPARK Ada development experience.
• Desirable: DO-178C software development experience.
• Desirable: automotive experience, including ISO26262 / IEC65108.
• Desirable: aerospace, defence or autonomous systems experience.
• Desirable: flight control systems or avionics software experience.
• Desirable: experience with UAV, UAS, drone or eVTOL platforms.
• Desirable: experience with runtime assurance or autonomy assurance systems.
• Desirable: familiarity with autopilot technologies such as ROS / ROS2, MAVLINK, PX4, ArduPilot or equivalent.
• Desirable: experience with model-based development and formal methods.

• If you are using a work visa, it must allow you to work in the UK unrestricted for at least the next 5 years.

Responsibilities:

• We design and develop safety-critical embedded software for autonomous systems.
• We build software components supporting runtime assurance and autonomous system safety.
• We develop high-integrity software using SPARK Ada and associated toolchains.
• We support software architecture definition for certifiable autonomous systems.
• We work closely with verification and certification teams to achieve regulatory compliance.
• We contribute to the development of DAL-A and DAL-B capable software solutions.
• We support integration across mission computers, flight control systems and safety monitoring functions.
• We participate in software safety analyses and design assurance activities.
• We help scale our platform from prototype capability to enterprise deployment.

Our software supports assured, trustworthy deployment of both traditional deterministic autonomy and AI or novel control methods across any application, without requiring data or communications links. We are initially applying our technology to autonomous systems in the aerospace and land domains. This is a hybrid role based in Witney, Oxfordshire, with three days a week on-site (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday).
