Digital Developer

Salary: £25,000 - 65,000 per year

Requirements:

• Strong commercial experience with React, Next.js and TypeScript
• Excellent knowledge of HTML, CSS and JavaScript
• Experience integrating with APIs
• Familiarity with Elasticsearch, search indexes and SQL-based databases
• Experience using Git and modern development workflows
• Understanding of cloud environments, ideally Azure and/or AWS
• Experience with responsive and accessible web development
• Strong debugging and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills
• Experience working in an Agile environment
• Desirable: experience with PyGeoAPI
• Desirable: experience with Jira and Confluence
• Desirable: experience working with geospatial or GIS technologies

Responsibilities:

• We work across the full software development lifecycle, from development and testing through to deployment and ongoing enhancement
• We develop responsive, accessible and high-quality user interfaces using React, Next.js and TypeScript
• We work with internal APIs and search indexes to deliver effective user experiences
• We collaborate with design and product teams to create intuitive and user-friendly interfaces
• We maintain and enhance existing applications
• We participate in code reviews, testing and debugging
• We support CI/CD pipelines and automated testing
• We produce technical documentation and contribute to project requirements
• We work within Agile development practices
• We keep up to date with modern frontend technologies and development best practice

We are recruiting an experienced Digital Developer / Frontend Developer to join a government organisation on an initial 6-month contract. This is a hybrid role based in Exeter, with 1–2 days per week in the office, offering a rate of £600 per day via Umbrella and falling inside IR35. We offer the opportunity to work on modern digital services in a collaborative Agile environment, building accessible and responsive user experiences and integrating with internally developed APIs and platforms.
