Data Integration Architect
Job Description
Salary: £72,000 - 85,000 per year
Requirements:- At least 5 years of experience in data and systems engineering, including related architecture work
- Proven experience reverse-engineering existing and legacy systems
- Strong hands-on SQL and relational database expertise
- Experience investigating stored procedures, APIs, interfaces, system integrations, and application code
- Ability to read and interpret code to understand data processing and business logic
- Experience mapping complex end-to-end data flows
- Strong understanding of systems of record, dependencies, and business rules
- Proven experience designing systems and data architectures, conceptual and logical data models, integrations, and interfaces
- Experience producing technical designs successfully delivered by development teams
- Ability to make and own architecture decisions independently
- Analytical, inquisitive, and strong problem-solving skills
- Comfortable working with ambiguity and incomplete information
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities
- Pragmatic and solutions-focused, with the ability to balance technical excellence and business needs
- Reverse-engineer existing and legacy systems to establish how they function
- Investigate databases, SQL queries, stored procedures, APIs, integrations, and application code
- Identify how data is created, validated, transformed, stored, and transferred
- Uncover undocumented business rules, dependencies, and system behaviours
- Trace data throughout its lifecycle and identify systems of record, ownership, and duplication
- Understand relationships between applications, integrations, and data sources, and document dependencies and technical risks
- Create future-state systems and data architectures, including conceptual and logical data models
- Design practical integration strategies and interfaces that support business objectives and scalability
- Translate architectural vision into technical designs, defining data structures, interfaces, and integration requirements
- Resolve ambiguity, answer technical questions during delivery, and review implementations for alignment with architectural intent
- Work with business process and software development teams to translate operational requirements into technical solutions
- Explain complex technical concepts, evaluate options, and communicate trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders
- Support implementation and testing, validate design assumptions, and refine solutions as needed
