Senior Desktop Engineer / Architect

Salary: £55,000 - 95,000 per year

Requirements:

• We need extensive experience in desktop engineering within financial services or trading environments.
• We need expertise in application packaging tools such as SCCM, Intune, MSI, InstallShield, or equivalent.
• We need a strong understanding of market data applications such as Bloomberg Terminal, Reuters Eikon, ICE, and CQG, and how they integrate into trading environments.
• We need experience with trading platforms and real-time data feeds, with a focus on low-latency performance.
• We need proficiency in PC hardware troubleshooting and hands-on experience installing, updating, and managing system drivers.
• We need solid knowledge of driver management, including installation, updating, troubleshooting, and cross-operating-system compatibility.
• We need knowledge of Windows desktop environments, including Windows 10 and 11, Active Directory, and Group Policy.
• We need familiarity with virtual desktop environments (VDI) and remote desktop protocols such as Citrix HDX, Mechdyne TGX, and Teradici PCoIP.
• We need basic scripting skills in PowerShell, VBScript, or Python to automate packaging and testing tasks.
• We need strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail, especially when working with time-sensitive trading applications.
• Nice to have: experience in financial trading environments with a focus on real-time data performance.
• Nice to have: knowledge of GPU-accelerated environments such as NVIDIA GRID and AMD vGPUs for optimizing application performance.
• Nice to have: familiarity with network protocols and latency optimization in trading systems.
• Nice to have: experience with CI/CD pipelines for application deployment and testing automation.
• Nice to have: IT certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Modern Desktop Administrator Associate or ITIL Foundation.

Responsibilities:

• We will package and deploy applications using Intune, SCCM, MSI, and InstallShield across physical, VDI, and RDS estates.
• We will test and optimize applications for latency, multi-monitor and 4K setups, and GPU-accelerated environments, while troubleshooting stability and compatibility issues.
• We will support market data applications such as Bloomberg, Reuters Eikon, ICE, CQG, and proprietary tools by validating feeds and integrating them into trading stacks.
• We will collaborate and communicate with traders, support teams, infrastructure teams, and vendors to set expectations, surface risks, and drive decisions.
• We will develop comprehensive documentation for packaging procedures, testing protocols, and troubleshooting guides.
