Software QA Engineer

Salary: £56,000 - 65,000 per year

Requirements:

• Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related subject, or equivalent experience
• 5+ years of software development experience
• 3+ years of experience in Software QA or a similar role
• Strong knowledge of manual, automated, and exploratory testing
• Experience with QA, test management, and defect tracking tools
• Strong understanding of the software development lifecycle
• Experience working with Agile/Scrum methodologies
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
• Ability to work independently and contribute to continuous improvement
• Strong attention to quality and customer outcomes
• Scripting experience with Python, Unix shell, Java, or C# is desirable
• Experience with tools such as Git, TeamCity, Jenkins, Artifactory, JUnit, or Jira is desirable
• Experience with test automation tools such as Selenium, Appium, Cucumber, or Gherkin is desirable
• Understanding of TDD and BDD is desirable
• Experience with Android development using Java or Kotlin is desirable
• Awareness of modern software build and delivery practices is desirable

Responsibilities:

• Create, maintain, and execute manual and automated test plans and test cases
• Review requirements and assess testability and risks
• Identify, log, track, and report defects
• Monitor software performance, usability, and functionality
• Work closely with development teams to improve testability and quality
• Produce test reports, quality plans, and supporting documentation
• Contribute to improving testing processes, tools, and standards
• Support and coach teams on software quality and testing best practices
• Track and report testing and defect metrics

We are offering a 14-month fixed-term Software QA Engineer opportunity in Cambridge, with the potential to become permanent. This role is a maternity cover position with a salary of up to £65k per annum. We work closely with software engineers, project managers, and test teams to strengthen quality throughout the software development lifecycle, improve testability, identify risks, and ensure our software products meet high standards of reliability and performance.
