Senior Data Science Lead - AML Risk

Salary: £66,000 - 106,000 per year

Requirements:

• Experience implementing, training, testing, and evaluating the performance of machine learning systems
• Strong Python knowledge, with proven familiarity and experience with OOP principles being a plus
• Experience with statistical analysis and the ability to produce well-designed experiments
• A strong product mindset with the ability to work independently in a cross-functional and cross-team environment
• Good communication skills and the ability to get the point across to non-technical individuals
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to help refine problem statements and figure out how to solve them
• Familiarity with automating operational processes via technical solutions, for example Large Language Models, is a plus
• Willingness to get hands-on with operational side-by-sides to understand pain points is a plus
• Knowledge and experience within the Financial Crime domain is a plus

Responsibilities:

• Join our AML Risk team in London as a Data Science Lead
• Help build out the lead Data Science team and machine learning-based technical solutions for AML risk detection across all Wise licenses
• Develop efficient and effective AML detection controls using a mix of unsupervised, semi-supervised, and supervised learning with GenAI
• Create frameworks to prove controls coverage at a regional level
• Develop technologies to serve our diverse international user base
• Build a team of high-performing specialists
• Work with product managers and engineering leads to understand staffing requirements
• Hire specialists
• Mentor more junior team members on technical and non-technical skill sets
• Evaluate our AML systems against internal and external benchmarks
• Develop decisioning layers to find optimal trade-offs between precision and recall
• Provide data-driven insights on potential outcomes under various scenarios
• Collaborate with operational teams to refine processes and integrate feedback into automation systems
• Design and manage projects that use excess operational capacity, such as manual data labelling for model improvement
• Create systems that provide investigators with in-depth insight into red flags and typologies present on profiles and transactions
• Package algorithms into deployable libraries or objects and transition them from staging to production environments
• Implement and maintain scheduled processes for data gathering and model retraining using automated pipelines
• Maintain production-grade Python services
