PostgreSQL Database Administrator

Salary: £45,000 - 75,000 per year

Requirements:

• Strong PostgreSQL DBA experience, including core development, maintenance, and performance optimisation
• Experience with sharding and partitioning
• Experience with clustering and database failover strategies
• Experience with extensions such as pgvector, PostGIS, and AGE is very useful
• Additional experience with Oracle or MSSQL is also required
• Experience with the latest version of Oracle
• Strong performance optimisation skills, including index tuning, execution plan analysis, query optimisation, and data partitioning
• Ability to define backup and recovery strategies based on environment constraints
• Experience with data modelling, including designing, creating, and managing schemas, tables, and views
• Understanding of best practices for storing JSON objects within PostgreSQL
• Clear communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with developers to define and implement data model requirements
• SC eligibility as a minimum; DV is a target
• Must have lived and worked in the UK continuously for the past 5-7 years

Responsibilities:

• Take responsibility for our application PostgreSQL database cluster across multiple environments in the cloud and on premises
• Monitor and tune PostgreSQL database performance to optimise results
• Handle migration of data structures across database instances, including offline environments
• Own the data models and manage the lifecycle of data within our Postgres database
• Work closely with data pipeline engineers and data scientists to ingest a wide range of data sources
• Manage security controls across environments, including roles and permissions, as well as RLS controls for the data
• Work with our infrastructure team to configure the installation and manage patching of databases across all environments
• Work closely with the development team to define the data model for new data feeds
