Salary: £75,000 - 75,000 per year

Requirements:
  • Strong people leadership with a track record of coaching and developing high-performing teams.
  • Solid background in platform engineering, architecture, and cloud and infrastructure-as-code technologies.
  • A deep understanding of the platform-as-a-product mindset and customer empathy.
  • Experience setting boundaries, managing risks, and driving operational excellence within Microsoft Azure.
Responsibilities:
  • Line-manage, coach, and develop a team of platform engineers, focusing on performance and career growth.
  • Foster a safe, high-trust, collaborative environment where engineers feel empowered to learn, experiment, and hold each other to high quality standards.
  • Own the platform vision, value proposition, and roadmap based on internal customer needs.
  • Champion platform thinking across our organisation so secure and reliable tools are the easiest path for all teams to choose.
  • Guide the team in building and evolving a portfolio of cloud services, including landing zones, CI/CD enablement, IaC patterns, observability, and backup and disaster recovery.
  • Curate complexity to actively reduce cognitive load for delivery teams.
  • Own production operations of platform services, driving improvements in reliability, security, and cost optimisation via the Azure Well-Architected Framework.
  • Establish secure boundaries and governance in Microsoft Azure, balancing developer autonomy with compliance.
  • Set and uphold the technical bar for production-grade engineering, arbitrate hard architectural decisions, and lead technical reviews.
  • Lead by example on engineering disciplines such as testing, automation, and documentation without needing to be the most prolific contributor of code.

You will build a high-trust culture and empower delivery teams by creating self-service, automated paved roads in Azure that reduce cognitive load and make secure, reliable delivery the easiest choice. This is a hybrid role with two days per week in the office.
