Data Engineering Team Lead
Job Description
Salary: £70,000 - 85,000 per year
Requirements:- Proven experience leading and developing software delivery or engineering teams, including geographically distributed teams.
- Strong commercial experience working with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and BigQuery, alongside a solid understanding of modern cloud architecture.
- Experience using AI tools to improve development workflows, automation and reporting capabilities.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively across technical teams, Finance, Compliance and wider business functions.
- Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise competing workloads and deliver high-quality outcomes in fast-paced environments.
- Experience driving collaboration, gathering requirements and ensuring solutions are delivered within agreed timescales.
- Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to motivate teams and foster a positive, delivery-focused culture.
- Commercial database development experience using BigQuery, GoogleSQL, T-SQL or SQL Server, including query optimisation and performance tuning.
- Experience designing and delivering software solutions within cloud-based architectures would be highly advantageous.
- Previous experience within highly regulated industries, such as financial services, gaming or other compliance-driven environments, would be beneficial.
- Leading, mentoring and developing a geographically distributed software delivery team, supporting both performance and career development.
- Owning the successful delivery of regulatory reporting software, ensuring solutions are accurate, reliable and fully compliant with governance standards.
- Working alongside technical leadership to introduce AI-powered tools and automation that enhance workflows, reporting capabilities and delivery efficiency.
- Collaborating closely with Finance, Compliance and wider business stakeholders to prioritise work and deliver against business objectives.
- Overseeing delivery risks, issues and cross-team dependencies, ensuring projects remain on track and obstacles are addressed proactively.
- Promoting best practices across software design, governance and engineering processes to improve quality, consistency and efficiency.
- Supporting the delivery of high-performance reporting solutions across distributed applications, batch processing platforms, REST and SOAP API integrations, web services and web-based applications.
- Building a collaborative and supportive team culture that encourages continuous improvement, innovation and knowledge sharing.
- Providing regular delivery updates to senior stakeholders, escalating risks where required and ensuring project milestones are achieved.
- Developing a thorough understanding of existing regulatory reporting platforms and identifying opportunities to modernise and improve them.
