Technical Lead, Android Growth Systems & App Foundations

Salary: £160,000 - 200,000 per year

Requirements:

• Bachelors degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 8 years of experience in software development.
• 5 years of experience testing and launching software products.
• 5 years of experience with Android application development.
• 3 years of experience with software design and architecture.
• Masters degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
• 8 years of experience with data structures and algorithms.
• 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.
• 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization involving cross-functional or cross-business projects.
• Experience with modern Android development: Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, Material Design.

Responsibilities:

• Provide technical leadership on high-impact projects.
• Facilitate alignment and clarity across teams on goals, outcomes, and timelines.
• Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and enhance large-scale software solutions.
• Leverage AI development tools to optimize daily workflows.
• Manage a technical team of 6 engineers while spending 50% of time on individual contributor responsibilities.
• Drive the technical strategy for Google Search across the Android ecosystem.
• Lead the evolution of OS-level entry points, including the Android Quick Search Box, into a cohesive access system.
• Ensure features feel like visually rich extensions of the Android launcher.
• Pioneer proactive assistance using native surfaces like lockscreen and widgets.
• Partner closely with Product, UX, and cross-functional teams to weave Search into Android.
