Job Description
Salary: £66,500 - 91,000 per year
Requirements:- Proven experience designing, building, and maintaining cloud-based platforms and infrastructure, with a strong focus on Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
- Hands-on experience with GCP services such as Compute Engine, Cloud Storage, VPC, IAM, Cloud Functions, and GKE (Google Kubernetes Engine).
- Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools such as Terraform or Deployment Manager.
- Strong background in CI/CD pipeline design and automation using tools like Jenkins, GitLab CI, Cloud Build, or similar.
- Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or Go.
- Experience with containerisation and orchestration, including Docker, Kubernetes, and GKE.
- Solid understanding of networking, security, and identity management in cloud environments, including GCP-specific best practices.
- Familiarity with monitoring, logging, and alerting tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack, or GCP Operations Suite.
- Experience with version control systems such as Git.
- Ability to troubleshoot and optimise workloads for performance, cost, and reliability on GCP.
- Experience with multi-cloud or hybrid cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, or on-premise is desirable.
- Exposure to service mesh technologies such as Istio or Linkerd and configuration management tools such as Chef or Puppet is desirable.
- Knowledge of site reliability engineering (SRE) principles and practices is desirable.
- GCP certifications such as Cloud Digital Leader, Associate Cloud Engineer, or DevOps Engineer are desirable.
- ITILv4 Foundation certification is desirable.
- Familiarity with GCP AI/ML services such as AI Platform or AutoML is desirable.
- Experience with GCP billing, cost management, and optimisation is desirable.
- Exposure to GCP security tools such as Security Command Centre, Cloud Armor, or Cloud Security Scanner is desirable.
- Experience delivering complex projects from backlog through to production is desirable.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to understand task requirements, dependencies, and prioritise work effectively for the team.
- Ability to mentor and guide junior engineers.
- Willing and eligible to obtain UK security clearance to Security Check (SC) if required.
- Design, develop, and maintain high-quality platforms and pipelines.
- Participate throughout the software development lifecycle, from design to deployment and maintenance.
- Engage and provide technical insight during system design.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver software solutions.
- Write well-documented code and contribute to technical documentation.
- Proactively troubleshoot issues, maintain the smooth operation of live services, and help resolve complex production issues.
- Stay up to date with the latest technologies and best practices, assessing their impact and identifying opportunities for adoption.
- Effectively communicate complex technical topics to both technical and non-technical audiences.
