Director Oncology Data Science
Job Description
Salary: £60,000 - 100,000 per year
Requirements:- Ph.D. in data science, computational biology, or a related field, with a strong scientific mindset and deep understanding of biology, oncology, and the low molecular weight drug development process.
- 10+ years of experience in a data science role in oncology drug development.
- 5+ years of people management experience in the data science space.
- Excellent leadership and management skills.
- Experience with quality control and data analysis for common assays such as bulk RNA-seq, scRNA-seq, and/or chromatin-based assays (ChIP-seq, ATAC-seq, Hi-C).
- Strong expertise in quantitative and computational biology approaches, AI/ML, and statistical modeling techniques.
- Proven track record of delivering data-driven insights and solutions.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex data insights to cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
- Proven contributions to the scientific community through papers and/or conference presentations.
- Ability to work onsite in Cambridge, MA and travel approximately 10% as required.
- Lead and develop a global team of US- and Europe-based data scientists focused on low molecular weight drug development.
- Co-develop and execute our data science strategy to support innovation in the low molecular weight drug development space.
- Align closely with Oncology Drug Development teams to represent our low molecular weight data science function and embed data science effectively in drug development teams.
- Interface regularly with Oncology Disease Area leaders to align priorities and deploy resources effectively.
- Collaborate with our Oncology Data Science AI team and other teams, including generative chemistry teams, to develop and implement innovative machine learning algorithms, AI models, and platforms.
- Build strong partnerships and shared projects with partner functions such as IT, Chemistry, and Technology.
- Contribute as a member of the Oncology Data Science Leadership team to overall direction and management of our function.
- Work closely with engineering teams to ensure adherence to data standards, data governance, and data strategy, and uphold best practices in analytics and reproducibility.
- Play a leading role in matrix teams such as Translational Data Science Clusters and technology-focused teams.
- Present and externalize our teams work at conferences, in abstracts, and in scientific journals.

We are Novartis, and our Oncology Data Science team in Biomedical Research supports the Oncology Disease Area with computational biology, AI/ML, and data engineering for novel therapeutics across multiple drug modalities. Our integrated scientists and engineers apply advanced analytics to pre-clinical and clinical projects to advance target discovery, drug development, and translational and clinical science. This full-time, onsite role is based in Cambridge, MA, with no remote option and approximately 10% travel.
