Principal Systems Engineer

Salary: £80,000 - 80,000 per year

Requirements:

• We need extensive experience in network or software engineering, ideally with an operations background.
• We need the ability to lead technical matters and provide expert guidance.
• We need Chartered Engineer status, or we need you to be working towards it.
• We need familiarity with DOORS and hands-on experience using it.
• We need proven experience in change management processes.
• Systems Engineering (INCOSE) qualifications are desirable.
• Network or software engineering experience, preferably with ex-operator experience, is desirable.
• Specialist knowledge in combat systems would be preferable for submarine-related work.

Responsibilities:

• We will expect you to provide technical ownership of CCS design.
• We will rely on you as the technical lead to support the Engineering Manager in delivering in-service programmes and leading key design decisions.
• We will need you to oversee project scope, manage design changes, and work with stakeholders and suppliers to identify and address risks early.
• We will expect you to lead programme-level design reviews, coordinate stakeholders, and manage design baselines.
• We will need you to ensure design governance is maintained and Certificates of Design are produced where required.
• We will ask you to review and influence technical requirements and architecture to support effective system integration across sub-systems and specialist areas.
• We will need you to provide subject matter expertise in the integration, validation, and verification of software-intensive systems.
• We will expect you to own challenges, proactively solve problems, and drive solutions with the right stakeholders.

We are BAE Systems, working in partnership with hackajob to hire for this Principal Systems Engineer role based in Frimley on a hybrid pattern of three days onsite each week. You will join our In-Service Programme team working on the V Class, in a fast-paced environment with a medium-sized core team of 6-12 and a wider stakeholder group of around 30.
