Senior Frontend Engineer

Salary: £36,000 - 76,000 per year

Requirements:

• Commercial experience as a Frontend Software Developer.
• Knowledge of web development best practices, including design, semantic HTML, CSS, TypeScript and related technologies.
• Exposure to JavaScript frameworks and libraries such as React, Redux and React Router, and testing tools such as React Testing Library, Jest, Cypress, Playwright, Jasmine, Enzyme and Mocha.
• Experience using Node.js to create high-traffic applications, potentially with Express.js, Sails, Koa or similar.
• Awareness and practice of UI performance best practices.
• Understanding of and exposure to integrating REST API and GraphQL endpoints.
• Strong experience and understanding of web accessibility, web design and usability across browsers, platforms and devices.
• Desire to write readable, maintainable, modular and extensible code.
• Exposure to the DevOps model.
• Ability to use AI-assisted engineering tools securely and responsibly where they add value.
• Ability to participate in on-call and production support processes.
• Ability to write and maintain Infrastructure as Code.
• Experience in Lean and Agile environments, with an understanding of methodologies such as BDD, ATDD and TDD.
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
• Nice to have: experience bringing responsive and adaptive web designs to life across multiple viewports.
• Nice to have: experience with modern JavaScript/TypeScript frameworks such as Remix or Next.js.
• Nice to have: experience developing web applications for non-standard devices.

Responsibilities:

• Use in-depth knowledge of JavaScript, TypeScript, React, Node and related tools to develop and implement scalable frontend systems.
• Profile and optimise code.
• Apply cohesion and architectural principles to create well-structured, maintainable software.
• Identify code patterns and refactor towards them where doing so improves understanding or maintainability, with minimal guidance.
• Translate requirements into tasks and code.
• Develop high-quality code that supports rapid delivery and pursue continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD).
• Commit code early and often, applying version control and branching strategies.
• Automate by default and write secure, maintainable code, observing basic hygiene practices.
• Implement relevant project instrumentation.
• Follow best practices for continuous BDD, TDD, performance, security and smoke testing.
• Work effectively with product stakeholders to communicate and translate needs into product improvements.
• Lead system design discussions and work with Product Managers to understand the domain and drive value.
• Support production systems, resolve incidents and perform root cause analysis.
• Debug complex problems and support and maintain software solutions.
• Share knowledge with the wider engineering community and mentor and develop colleagues.
• Produce proof of concepts to evaluate new tools.
