Platform Engineer

Salary: £70,000 - 70,000 per year

Requirements:

• We are looking for an experienced Platform, DevOps, Cloud or Infrastructure Engineer.
• We ideally want strong Linux infrastructure and troubleshooting skills.
• We would like experience with Docker and containerised environments.
• We would like Kubernetes experience.
• We would like Terraform or Infrastructure as Code experience.
• We would like experience monitoring, logging and troubleshooting production systems.
• We would like experience with cloud platforms, ideally GCP or AWS.
• We would like experience with CI/CD and deployment tooling.
• Previous GCP experience would be useful, but it is not essential.
• We are open to candidates from a strong AWS background if they understand cloud infrastructure and have solid Docker, Kubernetes and Terraform experience.

Responsibilities:

• We want you to improve, maintain and develop our cloud infrastructure.
• We want you to work closely with our Software Engineers to keep our systems secure, reliable and performing well.
• We want you to make incremental improvements to our platform rather than architecting a new cloud platform from scratch.
• We want you to improve automation, monitoring and reliability.
• We want you to refactor where necessary and make the platform easier for our development teams to work with.
• We want you to troubleshoot problems, dig through logs and understand why something is not working.
• We want you to work hands-on across modern cloud technologies and traditional infrastructure.
• We want you to participate in our paid on-call rota once you are comfortable with the environment.

We are a well-established, independently owned tech company based in Stockport, working with a modern infrastructure stack including GCP, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, FluxCD and GitHub in a predominantly Linux-based environment. Our platform team is small, experienced and collaborative, working closely with our software engineers in a culture where people tend to stay for a long time. We support hybrid working, with two days per week in our Stockport office and everyone coming together on Wednesdays and Thursdays. We have recently purchased our own office in central Stockport, which is being renovated into a new purpose-built space for the team. We offer a salary of up to £70,000, an additional circa £10,000 on-call allowance, a 35-hour working week, flexible working around core hours, 25 days holiday plus bank holidays, additional holiday for on-call participation, matched pension up to 5%, private healthcare or a healthcare cash plan, and regular team lunches, socials and company events.
