Linux Systems Engineer

Salary: £40,000 - 70,000 per year

Requirements:

• Expert knowledge of Linux, including familiarity with UNIX system calls, and low-level operating system and network protocols
• Experience using a modern configuration management system such as Salt Stack, Puppet, or Chef to automate management of a large-scale Linux deployment
• Ability to write robust, maintainable code in Python
• Strong troubleshooting skills across hardware, operating system, network, and storage
• Knowledge and experience of Linux patching processes, especially automation of testing and deployment
• Ability to convey complex technical topics to a non-technical audience
• Experience working in a large, multinational enterprise and collaborating in globally distributed teams is preferred
• Enthusiasm for modern development tools and practices including Git, Jenkins, automated testing, and continuous integration is preferred
• Experience designing, implementing, and supporting large-scale production IaaS platforms, including virtualisation and private cloud technologies is preferred
• Knowledge of building and managing containerised software in a secure manner is preferred
• Contributions to open source projects would be an ideal fit
• Knowledge of other programming languages such as Perl, C, or C++ is preferred

Responsibilities:

• Maintain and enhance our large-scale, globally deployed Red Hat Linux-based platform
• Develop and maintain components on a global level in partnership with operational counterparts and customers
• Prioritise and execute enhancements, extensions, and remediation for critical infrastructure components
• Use declarative configuration-as-code principles and extensive automation across engineering and design projects
• Add features, manage and tune configuration, and perform deep-level troubleshooting of our Linux platform management systems and Linux OS configuration and builds
• Contribute to the design and implementation of new solutions that support the fast-paced, dynamic needs of our business
