Data Scientist, Reliability Analytics

Salary: £160,000 - 200,000 per year

Requirements:

• Masters degree in Statistics, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Economics, Operations Research, Engineering, or a related quantitative field.
• At least 3 years of work experience using analytics to solve product or business problems, coding (such as Python, R, or SQL), querying databases, or performing statistical analysis; alternatively, 3 years of work experience with a PhD degree.
• Experience with Python, SQL, and statistical modeling.
• Experience working with generative AI agents.
• Preferred: PhD degree in Statistics, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Economics, Operations Research, Engineering, or a related quantitative field.
• Preferred: At least 5 years of work experience using analytics to solve product or business problems, coding (such as Python, R, or SQL), querying databases, or performing statistical analysis.
• Preferred: Experience in software development and source control methodologies.
• Preferred: Experience working with cloud computing or distributed computing environments.
• Preferred: Demonstrated ability to build investigative tools and data pipelines for infrastructure integration.
• Preferred: Proven ability to influence engineering priorities and roadmaps.

Responsibilities:

• We design and build statistical, machine learning, and AI tools, as well as investigative data pipelines, for integration into existing or new reliability infrastructure.
• We apply data science to improve Google Cloud Platform reliability in partnership with the Platform Reliability Engineering organization, focusing on change supervision and rollouts.
• We collaborate with engineering and product teams to build and improve reliability tools in line with engineering priorities.
• We develop deep knowledge of relevant engineering infrastructure and data assets to influence engineering roadmaps and priorities.
• We contribute to team-wide learning forums and broader data science initiatives.

Our Reliability Analytics Team works to improve decisions and systems in Platform Reliability Engineering through data and data science. We address a broad range of reliability problems by combining subject matter expertise with statistical, predictive, and generative AI and machine learning methods to improve reliability for Googles users and customers. In this role, you will influence engineering priorities and roadmaps in areas such as software rollouts and change management, with a direct impact on Google Cloud Platform reliability. Our Technical Infrastructure team builds and maintains the architecture behind our online products, including data centers and the next generation of Google platforms. We keep our networks running to provide users with a fast, reliable experience.
