Solutions Architect

Salary: £61,000 - 101,000 per year

Requirements:

• Relevant degree, professional qualification, or equivalent practical experience in solution architecture, enterprise architecture, information systems, computer science, systems engineering, engineering, or a related discipline.
• Experience as a Solution Architect, Enterprise Solution Architect, Technical Architect, Application Architect, Technology Architect, or in a similar role.
• Strong understanding of application and technology architecture.
• Strong understanding of Microsoft Azure cloud architecture, including infrastructure, platform services, identity, security, networking, storage, integration, and data services.
• Ability to assess Azure-based solution architectures and their implications for applications, technology, integration, data, security, and implementation.
• Understanding of cloud service and deployment models, including SaaS, PaaS, IaaS, and hybrid architectures.
• Good understanding of requirements engineering and requirements traceability.
• Ability to translate functional and non-functional requirements into practical solution designs.
• Strong understanding of integration architecture, including APIs, interfaces, middleware, authentication, and interoperability.
• Understanding of non-functional requirements, including performance, availability, scalability, resilience, security, maintainability, and supportability.
• Experience preparing solution architecture documents, high-level designs, impact assessments, decision records, and design review materials.
• Working knowledge of enterprise architecture principles and TOGAF or an equivalent architecture method.
• Working knowledge of ArchiMate 3.2, UML, and BPMN.
• Experience using Sparx Enterprise Architect.
• Experience using Prolaborate or a similar architecture collaboration platform.
• Ability to work with XML and XMI where required.
• Ability to identify and communicate solution risks, assumptions, issues, dependencies, constraints, and trade-offs.
• Strong stakeholder engagement, analytical, and communication skills.
• Ability to work across multidisciplinary teams, suppliers, and delivery organisations.

Responsibilities:

• We develop and assure solution designs across application and technology domains.
• We translate business, functional, non-functional, application, technology, integration, and implementation requirements into practical solution architecture outputs.
• We support requirements capture, structuring, validation, and traceability.
• We maintain traceability between requirements, architecture elements, applications, technology components, integrations, solution decisions, work packages, and implementation milestones.
• We develop application, technology, and Azure architecture views, covering components, services, platforms, infrastructure, cloud services, networks, identity, security, storage, integration, data services, and dependencies.
• We develop solution-level implementation and migration views, including dependencies, sequencing, transition considerations, and constraints.
• We assess solutions against architecture principles, technology standards, requirements, integration patterns, security requirements, and delivery constraints.
• We undertake application, technology, and integration impact assessments.
• We identify and document risks, assumptions, issues, dependencies, constraints, and requirement gaps.
• We support the design of APIs, interfaces, middleware, authentication, and system-to-system integrations.
• We work with IT, Digital, Cyber Security, Data, infrastructure teams, application owners, suppliers, and business stakeholders to ensure solutions are feasible, secure, supportable, and aligned with delivery requirements.
• We prepare solution designs, architecture diagrams, option and impact assessments, decision records, and design review materials.
• We create and maintain architecture models using ArchiMate 3.2, UML, and BPMN, as appropriate.
• We use Sparx Enterprise Architect to manage architecture models, requirements, and solution artefacts, and Prolaborate to publish and review architecture content.
• We support model exchange using XML and XMI where required and maintain accurate, controlled architecture and requirements repository content.
• We contribute to improving CWA architecture standards, modelling practices, governance, and requirements traceability.
• We produce and maintain solution architecture and high-level design documents, architecture views and diagrams, traceability views and matrices, dependency maps, non-functional requirement assessments, transition plans, design review materials, supplier design comments, model exchange files, and construction technology solution views where relevant.
