Technical Support Officer

Salary: £40,000 - 80,000 per year

Requirements:

• Excellent data management skills, including GIS
• Organised, self-motivated and methodical, with good communication and people skills and a keen eye for detail
• Familiarity with the principles of, and an interest in, nature conservation and recovery, ecology, conservation land management and/or nature-friendly farming
• This role is not open to international sponsorship

Responsibilities:

• Work primarily on the Biological Heritage Sites (BHS) system, Lancashires County Wildlife Sites
• Support the work of our Biological Heritage Sites ecologists
• Use and develop administration, data management and people skills while gaining experience in ecological practices, land management and stakeholder engagement

We are Lancashire County Council, and we are seeking a Technical Support Officer to contribute to nature conservation and recovery in Lancashire. Established in 1993 in partnership with Lancashire Wildlife Trust and Natural England, our Biological Heritage Sites system identifies 1,231 sites across the county. Our BHS team maintains and updates the system, carries out a rolling programme of site surveys, and provides land management and potential grant and support advice. The role sits within a wider team that includes the Lancashire Environment Record Network, which manages and shares environmental information to inform decision-making, as well as Lancashire Local Nature Recovery Strategy staff, ecologists and our Treescapes team. The post is based at County Hall in Preston, with flexible working from home or other locations where the role allows. We offer a range of benefits. Lancashires current 15 councils are planned to be replaced by four unitary councils from April 2028; successful candidates will initially join Lancashire County Council and, subject to implementation and relevant legislation, transfer to one of the new councils as part of the transition.
