Lead Software Engineer - Java/Python/AI-ML

Salary: £62,000 - 102,000 per year

Requirements:

• Formal training or certification in software engineering concepts, with applied experience
• Experience in AWS cloud development, particularly application design and development
• Experience integrating AI/ML models, prompt engineering, LLM APIs such as OpenAI and Bedrock, and generative AI
• Advanced proficiency in Java and Python
• Strong experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform
• Experience building RESTful APIs and working with event-driven or serverless architectures
• Experience leading effective use of approved AI-assisted software development tools, including setting team expectations for validating outputs for correctness, performance, and security
• Proficiency in automation and continuous delivery methods
• Proficiency across the software development life cycle
• Advanced understanding of agile methodologies, including CI/CD, application resiliency, and security
• Experience with infrastructure as code, such as Terraform or equivalent
• Preferred: Experience with automation using scripting languages
• Preferred: Relevant certifications, such as AWS Certified Developer, Microsoft Certified: Azure Developer, or Google Professional Cloud Developer
• Preferred: Familiarity with SQL, NoSQL, and cloud-native databases
• Preferred: Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, or other containerization technologies
• Preferred: Experience building loosely coupled software and familiarity with SOA or microservice architectures

Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and implement cloud-based applications and services
• Collaborate with architects and engineers to align design solutions with business goals
• Optimize applications for performance, scalability, and security
• Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to peers
• Stay current with cloud, AI/ML, and industry trends to drive innovation and continuous improvement
• Lead software engineering communities of practice to promote awareness and adoption of new technologies
• Drive team adoption of enterprise-authorized AI-assisted engineering practices to improve code quality, delivery speed, and operational outcomes; establish validation standards and promote reuse of effective patterns
• Use software development life cycle tools, including authorized AI-assisted development and automation capabilities, to improve the value of automation
• Develop creative software solutions and provide technical troubleshooting, applying unconventional approaches where appropriate
• Develop secure, high-quality production code, and review and debug code written by others
• Identify opportunities to eliminate or automate recurring issue remediation to improve application and system stability
