Senior Service Designer
Job Description
Salary: £60,000 - 60,000 per year
Requirements:- We need an expert Senior Service Designer with strong experience in end-to-end public service design.
- We expect strategic and tactical capability across the full service lifecycle, from policy intent through digital delivery and organisational change.
- We need deep knowledge of Service Design tools, including Service Blueprints, Ecosystem Maps, Stakeholder Maps, and prototyping tools such as Figma and the GOV.UK prototyping kit.
- We value experience championing Service Design internally and externally, influencing clients, partners, and peers.
- We need someone who can coach and mentor other designers and help define Service Design standards across engagements.
- We expect experience mapping existing service landscapes, identifying user and business needs, and creating shared cross-organisational understanding.
- We need experience with consulting, including understanding client ambitions, collecting insight, delivering analysis, evaluating options, and facilitating stakeholder groups.
- We look for evidence of successful Service Design case studies that delivered measurable service outcomes.
- We require the ability to define and deliver service improvement objectives on time and to the expected quality standard.
- SC clearance will be required if successful.
- Apply a holistic Service Design lens across technology, policy, process, and organisation to design and deliver public services.
- Build service design maturity by facilitating the design process, communicating complex service decisions, and setting strategic expectations with senior stakeholders.
- Design, prototype, and test seamless online and offline services aligned to organisational, service, and user outcomes.
- Champion Service Design across our business through community participation, training, briefings, coaching, and mentoring.
- Build trust with clients by demonstrating the value of Service Design and understanding their strategic needs for service improvement.
- Support our commercial team by contributing Service Design thinking and reviewing bids related to service transformation and user-centred design.
- Represent and advocate for user-centred Service Design internally and externally through talks, blogs, and case studies.
- Help define our Service Design principles and take an active role in developing and sharing good practice.
- Support the hiring and retention of expert Service Designers.
- Lead activities to map the current service landscape, identify needs, and build a cross-organisational understanding of the problems to solve.
- Map and prototype end-to-end service experiences, including user journeys, touchpoints, front-stage interactions, and back-stage processes.
- Remove unnecessary complexity so public services are simple to explain, understand, and use.
- Ensure designs consider the wider service system, including digital interfaces, policy, operations, and client organisational requirements.
