Staff Engineer Tech Lead

Salary: £100,000 - 100,000 per year

Requirements:

• We are looking for an experienced software engineer operating at Senior or Staff Engineer level.
• We ideally want experience in Java backend development.
• We ideally want experience in SQL and database design.
• We ideally want experience building REST APIs and event-driven architectures.
• We ideally want experience with Angular or another modern front-end framework.
• We ideally want experience in system integration and distributed systems.
• We ideally want experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing.
• We ideally want experience with cloud-based architectures.
• We ideally want technical mentoring and architectural leadership experience.
• Applicants must be UK Nationals and eligible to obtain SC Security Clearance.
• Candidates with active SC Clearance are highly desirable.

Responsibilities:

• We lead the technical direction for a cross-functional engineering team.
• We design and build scalable backend services, APIs and full-stack features.
• We architect integrations with external platforms including ERP systems, data platforms and third-party services.
• We drive architectural decisions across data, integrations and distributed systems.
• We champion engineering excellence through code quality, testing, CI/CD and observability.
• We mentor Senior Engineers and help develop the wider engineering capability.
• We collaborate with Product Managers, Engineering Managers, designers and customer stakeholders to turn complex requirements into practical solutions.
• We remain hands-on in the code while balancing technical leadership responsibilities.
