Backend Software Engineer

Salary: £100,000 - 100,000 per year

Requirements:

• We require SC Clearance or eligibility to achieve it; experience working with defence sector clients is ideal.
• We are looking for someone with a minimum 2.1 BSc in Computer Science or a similar technical discipline from a top-tier or Russell Group university, supported by strong A-level results.
• We want a strong technologist who enjoys collaboration and problem solving on complex, distributed systems.
• We need strong backend coding skills; experience with C#, Java, Python, TypeScript, or full-stack development is suitable.
• We expect experience with public cloud technologies such as Azure, AWS, or GCP.
• We value a solid understanding of modern software engineering best practices and the full software development lifecycle.
• We look for a thorough grasp of computer science fundamentals, including OOP, data structures, design patterns, and algorithms.
• We are seeking someone excited to join a start-up environment where they can shape and influence the role.

Responsibilities:

• We design solutions for defence sector projects across government and public sector clients.
• We build robust, data-centric, high-security software solutions.
• We work on backend development using a range of technologies.
• We collaborate closely with colleagues in our Newcastle office on a full-time onsite basis.
• We contribute to complex, distributed systems and apply modern engineering best practices.
• We shape the role within a scaling technology consultancy as it expands into defence work.
