Lead Engineer
Job Description
Salary: £42,000 - 82,000 per year
Requirements:- We need an expert in building modern, component-oriented front-end applications using frameworks and libraries, with strong UX craft.
- We need a solid understanding of web accessibility and recognised standards such as WCAG 2.2 AA.
- We need strong front-end performance expertise, including optimisation of load and runtime performance and awareness of Core Web Vitals.
- We need a customer-centric engineer who validates ideas through research, usability testing, experiments, and customer outcomes.
- We need proven experience leading engineering work through influence, mentoring and coaching others while staying hands-on.
- We need the ability to collaborate as one of several technical leaders and share ownership across specialisms.
- We need proficiency across a variety of development technologies, languages, design patterns, and tooling.
- We need solid C# experience in a Microsoft and Azure-focused environment.
- We need a strong understanding of SOLID and clean code principles.
- We need familiarity with CI/CD principles and experience working in environments that deploy regularly to production.
- We need experience working in small iterations with an agile mindset.
- We need awareness of security principles and best practices for secure software delivery.
- We need commitment to continuous learning and contributing to an engineering community.
- We need extensive experience working in an agile environment.
- We work as part of our Digital technical leadership team to set direction and own engineering standards.
- We act as the specialist voice on UI/UX, accessibility, and front-end performance.
- We coach and mentor other engineers, lead by example, and help teams make sound architectural and design decisions.
- We contribute hands-on across the development lifecycle, from coding through review and release to production.
- We lead the craft of our user interfaces in collaboration with designers, product owners, and stakeholders.
- We make inclusive, accessible design the default and ensure our products work for the widest possible audience.
- We use research, usability testing, experimentation, and customer feedback to validate ideas and measure outcomes.
- We implement and refine DevOps practices, balancing development and operations responsibilities.
- We reduce technical debt and improve the automation and reliability of our applications.
- We share responsibility for the wider technical agenda alongside our fellow Lead Engineers.
