IT Systems Support & Security Engineer

Salary: £35,000 - 45,000 per year

Requirements:

• We want someone who has run IT for a small business before and is comfortable working with a small team.
• We want someone with 2 years in an IT support/sysadmin role, ideally MSP or SMB.
• We want solid Microsoft 365 and Entra ID administration experience.
• We want hands-on experience with both Windows and macOS management.
• We want Azure experience, or a strong desire to build it.
• We want genuine security experience, including handling incidents, hardening environments, and doing Cyber Essentials, or the ability to get us through it.
• We want good communication skills with non-technical people.
• Bonus: scripting experience in PowerShell or Python.
• Bonus: ISO 27001 exposure.
• Bonus: interest in AI tooling.

Responsibilities:

• We will have you as the first point of contact for around 20 staff, both office-based and remote.
• We will have you keep the systems our team relies on running securely.
• We will have you manage Microsoft 365 end to end, including Exchange, Teams, SharePoint, licensing, and Power Automate flows.
• We will have you set up and manage Windows and Mac devices using Intune and Apple Business Manager, including encryption, patching, and approved-app policies.
• We will have you handle cybersecurity for endpoints and email using ESET, Mimecast, and Datto RMM.
• We will have you monitor alerts, investigate and respond to incidents, and run staff awareness training.
• We will have you manage backups for Microsoft 365 using Veeam and test restores.
• We will have you administer Azure and control costs, plus support our Google Maps API project.
• We will have you manage networking, including firewall, Wi-Fi, VPN, DNS, domains, and broadband supplier.
• We will have you manage identity and access, including MFA, least privilege, and joiners/leavers/role changes.
• We will have you maintain Cyber Essentials and ISO 27001 controls, evidence, and audits.
• We will have you maintain documentation, asset registers, and business continuity planning.
• We will have you lead the handover from our current provider in your first few months.
