DevOps Engineer
Job Description
Salary: £29,500 - 49,000 per year
Requirements:- Experience (non-internship) in professional software development
- Knowledge of systems engineering fundamentals, including networking, storage, and operating systems
- Experience programming in at least one modern language such as Python, Ruby, Golang, Java, C++, C#, or Rust
- Experience designing or architecting new and existing systems, including design patterns, reliability, and scaling
- Experience in automating, deploying, and supporting large-scale infrastructure
- Experience utilizing AWS cloud solutions in a DevOps environment
- Own and operate the infrastructure underpinning our e-commerce platform across production, staging, and pre-production AWS environments, including EKS, Aurora, ElastiCache/Valkey, SQS, Amazon MQ, and S3
- Drive security and compliance delivery, including ASR certification, Shepherd risk remediation, environment separation, CVE response, and patching
- Execute infrastructure cost optimisation against our S-team goals, including DRAM reduction, right-sizing, and VPA adoption
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines, including Jenkins/VQJenkins migration, deployment automation, and Terraform
- Participate in the on-call rotation as primary and secondary support for production incident response, triage, and resolution
- Deliver infrastructure changes through Managed Change Management with full rollback planning and operational rigour
- Contribute to platform reliability through multi-AZ resilience, monitoring, alerting, and observability using Prometheus and CloudWatch
- Support cross-team engineering through tooling, automation, and developer experience improvements
- Collaborate with 5 product engineering teams that depend on shared infrastructure
- Triage alerts and monitor dashboards, and act as first responder for production issues when on call
- Provision resources, write Infrastructure-as-Code, and review change management plans
- Help product teams debug deployment failures, identify root causes, and add automation to prevent recurrence
- Prepare production changes such as patching, upgrading, or scaling with proper testing, documentation, and peer approval
