Senior Software Engineer I - Pricing Core
Job Description
Salary: £66,000 - 106,000 per year
Requirements:- Strong background in software engineering with a track record of contributing significantly to large, impactful projects in a complex production domain.
- Experience with Java or a similar object-oriented programming language.
- Ability to design for long-term iteration and scale.
- Ownership of availability, reliability, and security of the systems we build, following engineering best practices.
- Ability to make sensible trade-offs between speed, scalability, and risk, and to optimise for a predictable, regular cadence of delivery.
- Ability to work on ambiguous and complex problems.
- Ability to own the technical roadmap and deliverables of a project end-to-end, with long-term ownership.

- Nice to have: experience in pricing systems and/or payments, finance domains.
- Nice to have: experience working with distributed SQL engines, such as Trino.
- Nice to have: ability to build software solutions, APIs, or platform tooling on top of big data pipelines and analytical engines.
- Nice to have: familiarity with configuration-heavy domains where business logic is shared between data and code.
- Design, develop, test, and maintain backend services written in Java using the Spring Boot framework, deployed on cloud infrastructure (AWS).
- Build and maintain event-driven architectures using Apache Kafka for asynchronous processing of financial events across distributed services.
- Contribute to and drive architectural decisions, ensuring we maintain a high bar on quality, reliability, and observability.
- Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, scalability issues, and technical debt in existing systems.
- Participate in on-call rotations to monitor and respond to production incidents for Tier 1 critical services.
- Conduct code reviews for team members, ensuring code quality, security, and adherence to engineering standards.
