The role

Our in-house engineering team builds and runs every product we operate. We work in two product teams, iGaming and Rewards, supported by platform and infrastructure engineers. We are partway through building a new version of our platform, which makes this the right moment to put quality engineering at the heart of how we deliver.

You will lead quality engineering across both product teams. You will guide how we test, build the frameworks and pipelines that make testing fast, and help every engineer take ownership of the quality of their own work.

This is a hands-on technical role. Early on you will write a lot of the framework code yourself. Over time your influence will come through the tooling you build and the engineers you coach.

What you'll do

• Define our test strategy: what we test at unit, integration, contract and end-to-end level, so every team knows where a given test belongs and why.

• Build and own our automation framework in Playwright and TypeScript, covering web front ends and APIs across both product teams.

• Make CI feedback fast and trustworthy.

• Bring our existing end-to-end suite to a healthy state and keep it there as the new platform grows.

• Coach developers to write and own tests for their own code, through pairing, code review and clear examples.

• Set up test data and environments that let teams test realistically and safely.

• Introduce performance and load testing for our core applications.

• Work with product managers so acceptance criteria are testable before build starts, and so testing time is part of every estimate.

• Track a small set of quality measures, such as escaped defects, change failure rate, suite run time and flake rate, and use them to decide where to invest next.

About you

• Strong coding skills in TypeScript or JavaScript, with test code written to the same standard as production code.

• Deep experience with a modern browser automation framework. Playwright is ideal; Cypress experience transfers well (we’re in the process of migrating from Cypress to Playwright).

• A track record of designing test strategy across the full testing pyramid for web products and APIs, including judging where automation earns its keep.

• Experience running automated tests in CI (GitHub Actions ideally) with Docker, and fixing pipelines that are slow or unreliable.

• Evidence of raising quality through other people, whether by coaching developers, setting standards or leading a quality practice.

Nice to have

• Contract testing in a service-based architecture, for example with Pact.

• Performance and load testing with k6, Artillery or similar.

• Using AI coding assistants to speed up writing and maintaining tests, with the judgement to review what they produce.

• Using observability data and production signals to decide what to test.

• Visual regression or accessibility testing.

• Experience in a regulated industry such as iGaming, fintech or health.

How you work

• You explain quality trade-offs to product managers and business stakeholders in plain terms.

• You will hold a release back when the evidence says it is not ready, and then help the team find a safe way to ship.

• You write things down: strategies, decisions and guides other engineers can pick up and follow.

• You are comfortable shaping a practice from an early stage, where you will need to decide what matters most first.
