Director of Software Engineering

Salary: £120,000 - 150,000 per year

Requirements:

• We are looking for someone already operating as a Director of Engineering, Senior Head of Engineering, or in a senior leadership role within a modern, product-led software business.
• We need experience leading multiple engineering teams through Engineering Managers in a manager-of-managers model, covering at least 35 people.
• We need experience operating as a Director or Senior Engineering Lead across two or more roles, developing Engineering Managers and building leadership capability.
• We require experience within high-growth, product-led SaaS environments.
• We need exceptional people leadership and coaching skills.
• We need strong partnership experience with Product leadership.
• We need experience improving engineering performance using frameworks such as DORA, SPACE, or similar.
• We need a proven track record of scaling engineering organisations and leading organisational change.
• We need strong commercial awareness and the ability to balance engineering excellence with business outcomes.
• Experience in private equity-backed or scale-up businesses would be beneficial.
• Experience with AI adoption or engineering transformation programmes would be beneficial.
• Experience with M&A integration would be beneficial.
• Experience in modern cloud-native technology environments including PHP, React, AWS, and PostgreSQL would be beneficial.
• Experience with Quality Engineering transformation and shift-left testing practices would be beneficial.

We are an ambitious, product-led SaaS organisation entering an exciting new phase of growth, with a newly appointed VP of Engineering and a newly created Director of Engineering role designed to strengthen our engineering leadership. We are scaling a technology function of around 45 engineers across 7 to 9 teams, and we are investing heavily in engineering, AI, and product innovation. This is a fully remote role with travel once a month to Leeds or London in the UK, and we offer a salary of £120,000 to £150,000, equity, and excellent benefits. You will have significant influence across Engineering and Product, with the opportunity to shape an AI-first engineering organisation, support large-scale growth, and help define our culture, organisational design, and leadership capability.
