Lead Automation Engineer

Salary: £40,000 - 65,000 per year

Requirements:

• SC clearance is required.
• Experience in AI-driven and AI-assisted testing, including GenAI, RAG-based systems, intelligent automation, and tools such as GitHub Copilot, Amazon Q, and Cursor AI.
• Experience in innovation and proof of concepts, particularly in AI-led test generation and regression optimisation.
• Senior QA or SDET experience across web, mobile, API, desktop, and cloud testing.
• Expertise in test automation frameworks including Selenium, Playwright, Appium, Rest Assured, and TestNG.
• Capability in designing and delivering scalable automation frameworks and enterprise test strategies.
• Extensive experience in end-to-end test lifecycle management, including test strategy, estimation, governance, and stakeholder engagement.
• Strong knowledge of CI/CD and DevOps integration, using Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud platforms such as AWS and Azure.
• Demonstrable success in large-scale automation delivery, including high-volume API automation and measurable cost optimisation.
• Experience in cross-platform testing with strong functional and automation coverage.
• Practical experience with cloud-based and cross-browser testing platforms such as BrowserStack and Perfecto.
• Strong collaboration and delivery focus across multi-project environments and distributed teams.

Responsibilities:

• Lead automation engineering initiatives for our new team supporting the bank.
• Build and deliver AI-related testing capability across our automation practice.
• Drive AI-assisted testing approaches, including GenAI, RAG-based systems, intelligent automation, and AI tooling.
• Lead innovation and proof-of-concept work for AI-led test generation and regression optimisation.
• Design and implement scalable automation frameworks and enterprise test strategies.
• Manage end-to-end test lifecycle activities, including strategy, estimation, governance, and stakeholder engagement.
• Integrate automation with CI/CD and DevOps tooling across our delivery pipelines.
• Deliver high-volume automation coverage across web, mobile, API, desktop, and cloud environments.
• Support cross-platform and cross-browser testing using cloud-based testing platforms.
• Collaborate closely with distributed teams to deliver across multiple projects.

We are building out a new team within the bank and are looking for a Lead Automation Engineer to join us. The role offers flexible location options including London TS or Leeds, with a 50% onsite working pattern that may increase to 60% later in the year.
