Java Lead Software Engineer

Salary: £62,000 - 102,000 per year

Requirements:

• We have formal training or certification in software engineering concepts, along with advanced applied experience.
• We have hands-on experience delivering system design, application development, testing, and operational stability.
• We have advanced proficiency in one or more programming languages, such as Java.
• We are proficient in all aspects of the SDLC and have advanced understanding of agile methodologies and practices, including CI/CD, application resiliency, and security.
• We have demonstrated experience leading the effective use of approved AI-assisted software development tools, including coding, code review, test acceleration, and troubleshooting, and we set team expectations for validating AI outputs for correctness, performance, and security.
• We have a strong understanding of responsible AI use in engineering workflows, including data sensitivity considerations, secure handling of inputs and outputs, and adherence to resiliency and security expectations.
• We have experience coaching engineers on safe, compliant adoption of AI-assisted practices within delivery workflows.
• We have in-depth knowledge of the financial services industry and its IT systems.
• We have practical cloud-native experience at scale.
• We have experience with emerging technologies and architectural patterns.
• We have strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to mentor and guide junior engineers.
• We are familiar with regulatory and compliance requirements in financial services.
• We have experience working in global, cross-functional teams.
• We are passionate about continuous learning and professional development, and we can drive innovation and influence technology strategy.

Responsibilities:

• We execute creative software solutions, including design, development, and technical troubleshooting, and we think beyond routine approaches to solve complex technical problems.
• We develop secure, high-quality production code, and we review and debug code written by others.
• We drive team adoption of enterprise-authorized AI-assisted engineering practices to improve code quality, delivery speed, and operational outcomes while establishing consistent validation standards and promoting reuse of effective patterns across the team.
• We apply knowledge of SDLC tools, including enterprise-authorized AI-assisted development and automation capabilities, to improve the value realized by automation.
• We identify opportunities to eliminate or automate remediation of recurring issues to improve the operational stability and resiliency of software applications and systems.
• We lead evaluation sessions with external vendors, startups, and internal teams to assess architectural designs, technical credentials, and fit within existing systems and information architecture.
• We lead and contribute to communities of practice across software engineering and promote awareness and use of new and leading-edge technologies aligned to enterprise standards.
