Salary: £33,000 - 65,000 per year

Requirements:
  • We require proven experience leading the analysis and synthesis of complex data sources to produce robust, actionable research insights that can be used across teams.
  • We require experience leading ethical and inclusive user research activity with a diverse range of users to support the design of inclusive and accessible services.
  • We require experience leading user research activity in line with legal and organisational standards and aligned to project goals to support evidence-based decision-making.
  • We require strong stakeholder engagement skills, including the ability to persuade, influence, and build effective working relationships.
  • We require experience leading teams to design and deliver a wide range of inclusive user research using appropriate methods for different situations and contexts.
  • We require active BPSS clearance.
  • We require a valid Basic Disclosure Scotland, or willingness to apply for one.
Responsibilities:
  • We will undertake user research that supports teams to design policy and services that work well for people and achieve policy intent.
  • We will develop a shared understanding of the people who use the service and what they need.
  • We will plan, design, and deliver user research activities.
  • We will contribute to the design of inclusive and accessible services.
  • We will lead the analysis and synthesis of complex research data, applying appropriate methods and assuring research quality and standards.
  • We will present clear, actionable findings that can be understood, used, and reused across the organisation.
  • We will champion inclusive, user-centred research, ensuring diverse and underrepresented users are represented in service design.
  • We will promote accessible and equitable service delivery, including the needs of assisted digital users.
  • We will advise on research methods and support best practice across teams.
  • We will manage stakeholder, team, and user participation in research activities and evaluate new research approaches to enhance capability.
  • We will adapt research approaches to agile environments, aligning activity to strategic priorities, MVPs, and service outcomes.
  • We will define research scope and objectives to support project goals and informed decision-making.
  • We will assure compliance with research ethics, safeguarding requirements, and legal standards.
  • We will develop and maintain user research strategies, processes, and standards that balance user needs and business objectives.
  • We will contribute to and promote the user research profession and community of practice.
  • We will build effective stakeholder relationships and communicate evidence-based insights to influence decisions.
  • We will advocate for user-centred design and support teams to adopt user-centred practices and ways of working.
  • We will identify key risks, opportunities, and priorities for service development and align research plans accordingly.
  • We will evaluate and oversee research tools, approaches, and third-party suppliers to ensure research objectives are achieved.

More:

We are supporting a public sector client on a 6-month inside IR35 contract for a Senior User Researcher, working hybrid from Edinburgh or Glasgow two days per week and starting as soon as possible. The role sits within the ongoing Correspondence Management System project as part of the Correspondence Improvement Project, which aims to modernise and improve correspondence handling across the client and partner organisations. The wider goal is to support more consistent processes, improved transparency and reporting, and a more sustainable service model for handling correspondence, including FOIs, Parliamentary Questions, and Ministerial and general correspondence.
