Job Description

Salary: £45,000 - 70,000 per year

Requirements:
  • Proficiency in Python and SQL, with experience in Apache Spark.
  • Strong experience building backend services and APIs.
  • Solid understanding of relational databases such as SQL Server and PostgreSQL, as well as distributed NoSQL databases such as Cassandra, MongoDB, and Cosmos DB.
  • Familiarity with data modelling, query optimisation, and indexing strategies.
  • Hands-on experience with data lakes and lakehouse architectures.
  • Familiarity with big data processing frameworks such as Spark.
  • Proven experience building ETL/ELT pipelines and using orchestration tools such as Airflow and Azure Data Factory.
  • Understanding of JSON, XML, APIs, and data ingestion technologies.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or GCP is a plus.
  • Understanding of data governance and compliance is preferred.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and containerisation technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes is preferred.
  • Background in Agile methodologies is preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate functional requirements into technical solutions.
  • A positive, approachable personality that supports collaboration and strong working relationships.
Responsibilities:
  • We develop and maintain backend applications using Python and SQL, ensuring they are efficient and robust.
  • We build and optimise database solutions, focusing on schema design, indexing strategies, and query performance tuning.
  • We develop and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines for ingesting, transforming, and serving data across systems.
  • We integrate applications with data lakes and lakehouse platforms.
  • We design and implement data models for structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data.
  • We develop APIs and services that support data access and transformation workflows.
  • We collaborate with data engineering and analytics teams to support reporting, BI, and advanced analytics initiatives.
  • We ensure data quality and consistency across platforms while complying with governance policies.
